The season has not gone as expected and getting absolutely drilled by Rutgers has taken the promise out of the season for many SHU fans. So we’ve gone from the unrealistic Final Four chatter to the limited chance to make the Big Dance viewpoint by some.
Some points:
First I respectively disagree with Carino on the team being so down about Sandro’s injury that they couldn’t perform at The RAC. It may have hurt them in practice, but let’s be honest our guys were completely unnerved by the first few minutes and could not compose themselves for much of the first half. Also happened at MSG last year during the SJU game and that was with Sandro along with Powell. Not buying the Sandro angle. It happens and athletes can get flustered on the road in hostile environments.
I had thought we were past this extensive Willard bashing, but I guess not. He has his fans and certainly detractors too. Personally, I have no problem with Kevin being our coach and also remaining our coach. I was never a basher, but I
did believe he should have been fired after the Marquette game at MSG several years ago. He did what he had to do since that time and I’m proud of our program right now. Pat Lyons deserves credit too. Is Willard perfect? No he is not.
Last point: Can we get back to basketball? I thought we played a very solid game in the loss to Michigan St. I thought we played a solid game against Oregon too. We were not smart in either game and the reason for losing..However, if we are so bad how did we have a 5 point lead and a 19 point lead in the first place? Iowa St 2 was a bad game, but Sandro was missing. Rutgers was awful with or without Powell. One of the funny things I heard this weekend was if we didn’t have Powell we would be a bad team.,Take Aaron Rodgers away from the Packers?
In my opinion too much bitching and bashing these days with this program. The guys could use our support and we need to stick with them. If it goes South this season so be it. Injuries can crush even a good team. Next up Maryland.
