Just for fun. obviously a lot of moving parts between now and then but lets say our team/coach remain the same and we add a big man that doesn't move the needle much.

I'm not sure on the order at the top of the conference yet, but I believe we'd be picked ahead of:

Creighton
Depaul
St John's (who I believe will be really bad next year)
Marquette (probably get picked ahead of them, but could easily see them getting the nod over us).

I believe we'd be 6-7 in the preseason poll next year as it stands. I just don't see any way to project us over the remaining 5 teams.

If Willard returns, we'll be picked 8th or 9th. As it stands now, DePaul, Seton Hall and St. John's look like the three worst teams in the league next year. I give Creighton and Marquette the nod over us due to coaching for the former and the incoming class for the latter. Creighton does have some decent players coming in too.

Sounds about right.

It's funny, maybe because I've been biased, but most years I thought we had enough talent to be picked slightly higher in the coaches' poll than we had been. Maybe the coaches knew more than a lot of us did about our HC situation?

Dunno about that. Being picked #6 by the coaches this year is the highest we were placed in as long as I can remember.

Yea, but I thought we'd be better than that given what I thought about some of the other teams and what I was expecting out of our recruiting class.

I'll say 5th. We lose 1 guy from our rotation, and he wasn't a major contributor (though he should have been). The four freshmen -- in particular Whitehead and Carrington -- will be drastically improved. None of the teams behind us are positioned to make a jump next tear, except maybe DePaul (Marquette's freshman class is good, but it won't make a huge impact in Year 1). St. John's is going to suck. Xavier probably will take a small dip with the loss of Stainbrook and Davis. I'll say we pass those two teams. We could conceivably pass providence also, particularly if Harris leaves (if Dunn leaves we will definitely pass them).

Flnj will have us2-3
Most posters will pick us 6-7
Coaches will have us 8-9.

I agree that our kids will get better but also feel other kids from other school will improve as well. We only had one recruiting class that was decent. Other school have good classes every year. We lose 2 starters in Mobley and Sina, two roll players who sometimes started in Karlis and Manga. I guarantee we will lose at least one other player. We replace them with Singh who is a nice pickup and Soffer who had no other major D1 offers. Add in the fine leadership and coaching ability of Willard and that puts us right where the other coaches pick us 8-9 maybe 10 if we lose anyone who will be a major player.

we will be picked 10th....unless St Johns doesnt re stock their roster....they are the only team I can see us picked ahead of

Sadly the bottom third. And that is if everyone comes back - I expect no significant help in winning in the BE from any recruit we may sign in the spring (or summer as far as that goes).

But, we will have a lot PT players in the summer leagues! And in practice!

I'm trying to get over this season and it's not easy. Now I come on this thread and get told we'll suck one more time. Think I'm gonna ffffade away.

Marquette will probably have the biggest frontline in the league. They should certainly be ahead of Seton Hall. My guess is no higher than 9th.

Coaches polls aren't just about talent. They also factor who the coach is. You can't forget that.

Marquette loses 3 rotation players, including their best player, from a team that finished six games under .500 and dead last in the league. They're not going anywhere next year. They'll be good in 2 years when Wilson and Fischer are upper classmen.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. I happen to think they'll be improved. You have to remember that it won't be nearly as difficult to climb the Big East ladder as it once was. Also, no one thought Butler would do anything this year. How did that turn out?

Butler, by the way, figures to be one Big East team that will improve next season. They lose woods and Barlow, but will have Nate Fowler and Tyler Lewis ready to take their places. Factor in their returnees and that should be a top three Big East team in the pre-season. As someone who follows N.C. State closely, I'm high on Lewis. He didn't do much for the Wolfpack, but is the perfect point guard for Butler.
