Providence's Dunn, Villanova's Brunson Take MBB Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – After leading his team to a pair of conference wins, including an 81-73 road triumph at Butler, Providence guard Kris Dunn has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson, who directed the Wildcats to a 3-0 week, was selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Dunn is the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and Brunson is the BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kris Dunn, Providence, G, Jr.
Dunn averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week, which included the win at No. 9/10 Butler. The junior had 20 points, nine assists and grabbed seven rebounds against the Bulldogs. In an 83-65 win over St. John's, he finished with 26 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. For the season, Dunn is second in the BIG EAST in scoring (17.5) and first in assists (7.5) and steals (2.5).
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jalen Brunson, Villanova, G, Fr.
Brunson helped the Wildcats to a 3-0 week by averaging 15.3 points. He scored 15 points -- all in the second half -- in an 85-71 win at Creighton. The freshman, despite battling a virus, scored nine points in 17 minutes in a 95-64 win over Xavier. He started the week with a 22-point effort in a 77-57 victory against Pennsylvania.

Geoffrey Groselle, Creighton, C, Sr.
Made 19-of-20 shots from the floor in a 1-1 week. Averaged 14.0 points and 6.3 rebounds. Had 22 points in an 80-70 win at St. John's.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown, G, Sr.
Averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Scored GU's final 12 points in an 80-70 win versus Marquette.
Isaiah Whitehead, Seton Hall, G, So.
Averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 assists in a 2-0 week. Had a team-high 18 points and a game-high nine assists in a 78-74 win against DePaul.
Daniel Ochefu, Villanova, F, Sr.
Shot 18-of-21 from the field in a 3-0 week. Averaged 14.3 points and 9.9 rebounds. Had 19 points and seven boards in an 85-71 win at Creighton.
Remy Abell, Xavier, Sr., G
Averaged 13.5 points in a 1-1 week. Made 7-of-8 from the floor and scored a game-high 21 points in an 88-69 win over Butler.
