I notice that he is listed on our roster as a PG, a junior and a graduate of one of America's premier prep schools, University of Chicago Lab School and is probably a walk-on . What else does anyone know about him and where he was after he graduated in 2012.

Nice catch. Chem major, went to University of Chicago Laboratory, which is probably a pretty good school if that is their affiliation. Maybe he's around to boost the team GPA? Also, I know we've had a player or two come out of Providence St. Mel, maybe during the Orr era. Anyone recall who?

I noticed a guard in the warm ups. I assume that was Michael. The guy from the other school was probably Stan Gaines. ??

That may be it. I Don't think it was Whitney ... the more I think about it, it was Stan. Didn't Billy Garrett also coach there?

Dan
I did see that Bio of him on the school's athletic web site but it doesn't talk about where he's been since his HS graduation in 2012. If he came to SH after graduation and was simply a student and is listed as a junior that would explain the two missing years. Purely on speculation I wonder if Fred knew him or of him when he was at NW and asked him to walk-on to add another guard even if it's just for practice purposes. Looking at his HS stats he had a pretty good HS career.

All the folks worried about not having enough guards - there you go! :) Looks like a pretty good walkon.

I personally have the highest respect for anyone who is a walk on in either the men's or women's program. They know the chance of seeing minutes is close to zero , yet they put a lot time and energy into a sport they love and they should know that we as fans recognize their efforts.

Some of my fondest memories from going to SHU games when I was a kid was the crowd urging some of the walk-ons to shoot... And the crowd erupting when they scored or made a great pass or steal... John Yablonksi always comes to mind.

Those guys put in so much time and effort.

Kudos to Michael Dowdy Jr.

"Kudos to Michael Dowdy Jr."

I wonder how many chemistry majors are playing D1 basketball? Not many I bet.

Didn't Frantz Volcy also attend engineering classes at NJIT thru a special arrangement with NJIT. I know he's an engineer , serves as director of engineering for the City of Englewood and is associated with a NJ engineering firm., and holds a degree in physics from SH and a civil engineering degree from NJIT.
