Wild Wild Country...

I had no idea what it was and based on what I just read, I'm still not sure, although other people seem to like it.

Can you elaborate?

It's a docu-series... 6 episodes each roughly an hour long.

It covers the Rajneesh Religious Cult that was established in India in the late 1960s and moved to Oregon in the late 1970s and exploited US laws and election laws to take over a town and turn it into Rajneeshpuram. It all came to a boiling point in roughly 1985 with the Wasco County elections in which they tried to take over the County Seat - The Dalles - and the County Commission.

I'm up to episode 6, I will watch the last episode tonight.

Really intense. Also creepy and weird.

And the story is told in an interesting way.

Either interviews and footage from the time or interviews the producers had recently with many of those highly involved back in the 80s.

Just saw the trailer. Definitely going to watch it. My sister-in-law and her husband are retiring to Oregon… LOL. Heading out in two weeks.

Watched the last episode. Not sure how I feel about the Cult or the Show or the Guru or his Secretary.

Maybe that was the point of the docu-series???

Also I've always wanted to go to Oregon! Retire? Who knows. I surf and hike - a lot. Got plenty of both out in Oregon and NCal. But not sure how I'd adjust to such cold waters - even compared to NJ.

Oregon is one of five states I haven't been. Funny couple, they are hippie throwbacks. Both social workers, she went to Woodstock, and they marched in the pussy hat Parade after the election. But the area that they are moving is 98% white, 0.05% black. Hispanic and Asian make up the rest....only restaurant owners. So much for embracing diversity...lol.

Just watched the first episode as well last night. Great recommendation. Was surprised to learn Seela was a Montclair State grad (my undergrad), but about 8 years before me....who knew???

Just finished watching the series. Excellent document-drama. I was surprised how much actual footage they had and the interviews of so many of the characters who are still alive. I vaguely remember this happening back in the 80s.

Some of the strangest fact scenarios that all merge together at this one place in time. No one has clean hands. From the towns people who have no tolerance for these new strangers who do some amazing development and then the absolute ridiculous counter attack by the some members of the cult. Some interesting lessons to be learned here.

Agree. Some of the things were just astonishing. Out of control power. Drugging their cult members spiking beer with Haldol? What is still the largest bio terrorist attack in the history of this country poisoning over 750 residents with salmonella. A great case study in terms of why you will never see any material gun control laws. Some great irony though, that the commune is now a camp for Christian youth… LOL
