Women's Top 25

On the doorstep. I think the problem for both Seton Hall and DePaul is deeply baked into the schedule with respect to conferences. Only one non-Power-Five is in the T25. Wow - so - if you don't have Power-Five on the schedule, you cannot establish reference points. The only way through this is to keep winning.

Well Turkey Day just got interesting with NC State visiting. Tough after going to UT-Arlington tomorrow...

Who made this schedule?

This schedule is like an Army forced march. No stopping, no let up, no sleep.

" We're gonna do our best" Tony B this morning.

Sami,

As per Chuck, Tony wanted it this way. Only way to get the respect is to put on a forced march like this.

I don't follow WBB closely but I know enough to know that there isn't the parity that you have in the men's game.

Is the BigEast an extremely weak conference? Crazy to me that not one BigEast team is ranked.

For example last year our ladies had some ridiculous record like 15-3 and were a bubble team. If the men were 15-3 they would be a 3 seed.

It's certainly not a strong conference and there is a legit fear that it will slip into a one-bid conference unless some programs step up.

Who made this schedule?

It's not a home game, it's in Cancun as part of the Cancun Challenge.

The Pirates should be ranked in the USA Today Coach's Poll which is released tomorrow.

If you go by the Sporting News, there are 13 power conferences 19 mid-majors.

There aren't any women's conferences that are loaded top to bottom. The old Big East was by far the best conference.

At the end of last season five of 32 conferences had 21 of the top 25 teams. If you count the AAC with UConn and South Florida then that's 23 of 25 top teams coming from six conferences?

The solution for Seton Hall is to schedule more top 25 OOC games. They are building steadily. The Pirates are one top big away from taking it to the next level.

Really, you need one top big or forward with each recruiting class. That would mean you have four on the roster at any given time.

Easier said than done.

Lots of good stuff in your post! The middle sentence is really very observant. This year we start this campaign for the top with Taylor Byrne. I think she has amazing upside. I hope other teams put seniors on her. She has a lot of "is that all you've got??" to her attitude.

Taylor Byrne is the kind of kid that Notre Dame usually gets.
She is New York tough. . And a a high enthusiasm player and teammate.
She and Leticia Smith could make all BE Rookie Team.

But you guys are right. The rest of the league has to get better for conference play to mean anything.

DePaul has a quality program and Nova is getting there and is adding a top 50 player in its 2016 class along with a top 150 guard both rated 4 stars .

Byrne tough? That's putting it mildly. You get in a fight you want her on your side. My kinda interior player.

We were court side at Hagan and I watched her face closely as she was being beaten on by the two Hawk bigs. At first she was surprised and annoyed at the beating and no calls. But later she got that look - you are not taking me, I am gonna take YOU!

Damn. Wow.

I agree with the comments about Byrne. She definitely fits into that category of a "top" forward.

I forget if it was the RU or Princeton game, but at one point she had rough stretch- bad passes/turnovers, missed shots, mystery fouls calls, etc. Do you think she let it get her down? No way. I think she played even harder. I love that. When she fouled out, she was the main cheerleader on the bench.

Then there's Smith who is also a top recruit. The only reason she's not starting is because the Pirates have two 5th year guards. You have to believe the freshman from LA is getting a quick and major education when it comes to playing in college. It wouldn't surprise me if 10 games into the season, she will be ready to start if the need would arise.

Regarding another freshman, is Healy redshirting? She has not dressed for any game.

400, you have it exactly right regarding TT Smith.

My take on red shirt is that there is a process and a discussion behind the scenes prior to any announcement. I know. That is obvious. Just thinking it may be a while before we learn of the dispositions.

The schedule was good last year and is good this year. It's no fault of the Pirates that every big name team on the schedule last year underachieved. Hopefully the same doesn't happen this year with Rutgers, Princeton, NC State, and Georgia.

I think UGA is in kind of a down year, not ranked this year... but a SEC away game is still an SEC away game... And just how talented is NC State? Are they generally a bubble team or a tourney team or neither?

Any win for our WBB against a power 5 conf team is HUGE.

I was at the Game V Rutgers and it was THE BEST time I have had at Walsh.

I was down in the coaches offices afterward, was just a great atmosphere. This staff & players get it.
