Damning expose on college spending. Our friends in Storrs get top billing on spending increased compared to enrollment increases. It focuses on state schools. Sorry it’s behind a paywall. But it’s clear this trend is a key driver of the student loan crisis and is unsustainable

Tuition costs will continue to rise because the government will continue to loan money and students will continue to borrow money. When the loans stop the rising tuition costs and uncontrolled spending will stop because the well will be dry.

Exactly. And this is also why you don't want the government anywhere near passing legislation on NIL/P4P.

State schools according to this article and research at its current numbers aren’t sustainable

It’s chicken and egg. But you’re right. The monster continues to consume more and more. And in large part they can because too much easy money is available for student loans. In essence , schools are saddling students with crazy debt to build and build to attract more and more students.

And as is almost always the case it is the large state schools driving the bus off the road.

I could see UConn going to the ACC if asked.Good riddance as far as I am concerned. Its the only State Public University in the conference.

ACC is the only possible landing place now. And it appears that an awful lot has to happen before that is even remotely possible.

This is exactly right. Easy money on student loans drives tuition costs higher, and it's a self-feeding machine. Making loans available to those who would otherwise not receive them sounds like an altruistic hand up program, but like most government actions, the unintended consequences actually make the situation worse. Now enter "loan forgiveness", and repeat.

It's not happening. At least not until the ACC blows up.

Yes, we undoubtedly would. Would you mind horribly if we took our NCAA credits with us?

See what's happening in Pennsylvania with all the mergers of the smaller State schools like Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, etc. There will be consolidation and attrition for sure.
