Dean Hobbs,

It sounds to me like you are doing exactly what powerful arrogant men do: primarily take input from the person who literally is the root cause of a massive problem. If you listened to the countless voices here who have analyzed carefully just how terrible the Willard tenure has been, you should have an attack of self-loathing and remorse.

You are responsible for the failure sir.

I hope some lieutenant in the administration alerts you to this charge. While I expect nothing of you, I sincerely hope you come to rue the day.

for an intelligent man its amazing that you cannot or just wont open your eyes and see that your decision and the BOR decision to apparently keep Willard for AT LEAST another year is incredibly harmful to the school. You got extremely lucky if you were indeed the person who hired AMAKER. At least for 4 years we were relevant and the school was making money and things were looking great. And even though he left us as many coaches do around the nation WE WERE RELEVANT AND THE FUTURE LOOKED BRIGHT. And the fiture turned out ok with Coach Orr. 2 NCAAS and an NIT in his 5 years with us. He recruited well both locally and in the Midwest and we were at least a good destination point for many potential recruits. Now we have a man that has shown us what he can do in 5 years. 1 NIT and a losing record among other things. I personally have really never been as down on our program. Bobby G was a highly passionate man who ruined his coaching career up to this point because of his personality. I was shocked at the criminal part with Whitney and Mitchell but Bobby G certainly didn't tell them to commit that horrible act. KEVIN WILLARD IS NOT THE MAN FOR THIS JOB. WHAT MORE DO YOU AND YOUR CRONIES NEED TO SEE? I don't care if its the extension. We can work that out. If we are in such an awful place to where we have to keep a coach because we cant figure out how to buy him out well then lets go to the MAAC. Big time schools find a way. And not only football schools. IM schocked at this potential decision and saddened. You PAT HOBBS are a former SETON HALL PREP student so you know the history and passion behing our program. After 3 NCAAS in the past 21 years and 9 in our history well this is disgraceful. You took the credit with the AMAKER hiring now take the blame and do something NOW. We cannot afford another year of this. How many times can your fanbase tell you what you already know. The school and program will suffer in many ways. People in the basketball community are watching what we do. ALONG with you and the BOR maybe DR. ESTEBAN is also the problem. I don't know. I like what he is doing academically but does he really care about our atletic programs? If he did he would act like a leader and do something about this situation. As for the fans who want to hear Lyons or Hank D or someone make a statement. well its all bs. Action speak louder than words. KEVIN WILLAR IS NOT BIGGER THAN THE SCHOOL. Whenever he leaves we are in his rear view mirror. People live and die for this program and the school is letting many fans down. Many years ago I thought FR. Mike Kelly of the PREP would someday run this school. But he loved the PREP to much. f he were here I can guarantee Willard would be out and fast. But you and your buddies will rue the ay that you kept this man as coach. We are in a new Big East and instead of fighting to be better we shrink away from the problem and do nothing. And im tired of seeing RU in the paper everyday. that will never change but they are in the BIG......Our only hope is basketball and you all are making a horrendous decision. Have a great season next year in Newark. Even NJIT is moving forward. Ive seen this same song and dance with SHU for many years so I am personally not surprised. You all strive for mediocrity.

So you want Pat Hobbs to hang Kevin Willard out to dry in the media? You think that's a better idea than giving a generic answer?

BP my friend I think you've gone off the rails. Put the keyboard down slowly and walk away from the computer...

By saying Willard is on the hot seat puts the program in limbo until a decision is made after next season. He can't say anything else without completely killing recruiting.

I agree. Is this sort of post really necessary. OK we made a bad hire. It happens. But do we really have to point fingers in every direction and make it a blame game. Don't we all make bad decisions at times in life. Do we have to be villafied for it?

your ignoring the point of this post. its not that we made a bad hire, its that the power is messing with his head and they wont listen to the people they really work for. saying willard isnt even on the hot seat is beyond insane.

Willard isn't on the hot seat. Most of us agree we should be looking for a coach right now, but since that was never even considered, Hobbs has no choice here.

There are only 2 options...

Fire him or be completely behind him publicly.

Willard is clearly on the hot seat with the fans and media...

The BOR and leadership doesn't obviously care about performance and that's all that matters. Comments mean nothing anyway...action only matters.

I think PirateCrew is officially crazier than the Linda Gonzalez blog was.

SOBO agree This board is whacked by the same group of posters. This board is like NJ.com board, you would think the handful of posters represent the whole Seton Hall fan base the way they talk smack.

Yes. Anyone who had anything to do with this all the way to the smallest encouragement must be berated and chastised. this is what you get. this is the end, a blackhole. If we arent reminded and criticized daily for how stupid we have been for years upon years we will never change. It will be annoying, but trying to push it aside because "we surrender you all were right" will not change anything. Let it become a wasteland, Sherman is marching to the sea. Anyone who who thought for a second this was a good idea should feel ashamed to the point where it cant happen again.

Who even cares anymore. It's time to just tune this program out.

I can't help but think that much of the harsh commentary on the status of Kevin , the state of the program and the horrible year we've just completed would have been significantly reduced if only SH had spoken to the issue. The continued silence from SH has added to the frustration many fans are feeling and has led to what we're seeing on the Board in the tenor of the posts on these subjects.

Impassioned pleas and rants on an anonymous message board does not serve any useful function. It just makes this Board appear ridiculous and renders it unreadable.

Sherman actually marched to the sea. He didn't sit in his barracks and send letters every day to his fellow Union soldiers saying, "we need to defeat the South".

Great point. Shuathlete and others actually believe that their obsessive and negative rants on this Board are going to bring about positive change. Talk about being delusional.

I think most on the board did all we could. Sent letters and emails to the BOR and Lyons. Obviously in the end as Dan has been stating, it's all about $ and there's nothing we can do about it short of winning the powerball and donating the buyout ($4MM?). Nothing to do now but see how the offseason plays out with regards to coaching candidates being hired by other schools and seeing if there are any transfers. Not a fun way to spend it, but at least baseball starts in about a week. Oh wait, my team is picked to finish with the worst record in MLB.

It can be tiresome, but these guys are fans too and if posting here every day helps them blow off steam I am all for it. I can choose how often I want to read it. I do have doubts that anything posted here (at least at this point) will have any effect on the real world, and I hope deep down they have doubts too.

PR 101 ---
If any question is not within your immediate responsibility sphere, answer by saying" Talk to Mr x. This is not my responsibility"

Only bad things happen when any other statement is made, such as putting the person whose responsibility sphere is involved in a more awkward position.

That said, if the person whose responsibility sphere is involved chooses to deliver a message without communicating it directly, then (s)he might ask another to interpose where (s)he does not belong.

Hobbs is reputedly a savvy negotiator and administrator. So, if it were NOT just out of an ego kick, the fact that Hobbs spoke when he should not have said anything indicates to me that our DA wanted to send a message without personally bearing the consequences of it.

A "stealth" vote-of-confidence.
