NEW YORK, N.Y. - Freshman Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
McCarthy was instrumental in the Pirates' walk-off 2-1 victory over Georgetown on Thursday. The right-hander pitched 6.1 innings and didn't give up an earned run, while striking out four batters and walking only one. McCarthy allowed only three hits as Seton Hall took game one of a crucial regular season-ending series with the Hoyas. It was McCarthy's first start since April 26.
Georgetown's Beau Hall was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. The BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll consists of Butler's Chris Marras, Creighton's Ryan Fitzgerald, Georgetown's Kevin Superko, St. John's Thomas Hackimer and Xavier's Patrick Jones.
McCarthy and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Thursday, May 21 when they begin play at the 2015 BIG EAST Championship in Omaha, Neb. The third-seeded Pirates will face second-seeded Creighton at 8:00 p.m. The game will be shown live by the BIG EAST Digital Network.
