Kansas City, Mo. — The Seton Hall men's basketball team has been named a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2022-23 season, the organization announced Thursday. Additionally, a program-best six Pirates were tabbed to the NABC Honors Court.

The Hall is one of only two BIG EAST teams to earn the Team Academic Excellence Award this season and its six Honors Court recipients, highlighted by graduate student Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) and senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.), are tied for the most in the conference. The six Pirates named to the NABC Honors Court is a new record for Seton Hall men's basketball, topping its previous best of five Honors Court student-athletes in 2019-20.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2022-23 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2022-23 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Six BIG EAST schools had selections to the 2022-23 NABC Honors Court with Seton Hall representing six of the 17 total student-athletes selected (35 percent).

This is the second time that a team led by head coach Shaheen Holloway has earned an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, joining his Saint Peter's squad in 2021-22. In total, 12 student-athletes coached by Holloway have been named to the NABC Honors Court.
