Each time the Pirates cut their deficit to seven or fewer, the Lions hit a run-breaking shot. Seton Hall finally broke through late and took the lead with only 1:30 remaining, but Columbia ended the game with a 9-0 run.

After a disappointing debut, Baines broke out against Columbia with 20 points on 9-for-16 shooting and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds. Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) had 13 points, five assists and three steals and Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) totaled 11 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
