Seton Hall Athletics Records Another Banner Academic Year

South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall student-athletes are incredibly talented on and off the field, and their academic prowess has always been a focal point. At the end of the ninth consecutive academic calendar, the Pirates are concluding the year with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) above 3.30. After Spring 2023 grades were calculated, the department sits with a 3.493 cumulative GPA, and all 14 varsity programs are above 3.10.

Additionally, 165 student-athletes made the Seton Hall Dean's List during the Spring 2023 semester, representing 60 percent of the student-athlete population. To achieve Dean's List designation, students must have a 3.4 GPA or higher during the semester.

All 14 programs currently boast cumulative GPAs above 3.10 with women's golf at the top of the department at 3.773. Men's soccer, which finished second in the highly rated BIG EAST and earned an NCAA Tournament bid in 2022, has the highest GPA among the male sports at 3.636. In total, eight of Seton Hall's 14 teams have a cumulative GPA above 3.50.

Seton Hall's teams combined to post a 3.452 GPA in the 2022-23 academic year with women's golf again leading all with a 3.730 GPA and men's soccer leading the male sports at 3.564.

In the Spring 2023 semester, the Pirates combined for a 3.482 semester GPA with women's tennis leading all teams at 3.772 and men's soccer leading all the male teams at 3.631.

Men's basketball, the department's highest-profile team with eight consecutive finishes in the top-half of the BIG EAST and NCAA bids in six of the last eight tournaments played, continues to boast a strong academic profile as it completed its eighth straight academic year with a cumulative GPA over 3.0, currently standing at 3.224. The program had a fantastic Spring 2023 semester with a 3.443 GPA.

Women's basketball, which earned a national postseason berth for the seventh time in the last nine postseasons played, also continues to show its academic strength. The program has a 3.143 cumulative GPA and was solid in Spring 2023 with a 3.157.

Softball, which won the BIG EAST Championship for the first time since 2005, also competes hard in the classroom with a 3.620 cumulative GPA, which includes a 3.649 Spring 2023 GPA while the Pirates were actively in the process of racking up their 42 wins.

Seton Hall Athletics continues to be a leader and developer of the best and brightest in the nation. Annually, over 85 percent of the department's student-athletes achieve at least a 3.0 GPA in the classroom and receive numerous honors and accolades in support of their achievements. Seton Hall supports its student-athletes with outstanding mentoring and tutoring, led by the Academic Support Services staff, and offers its student-athletes a state-of-the-art learning environment in the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, which consists of a main study area, group meeting spaces and private tutoring rooms.
