Atlanta, Ga. -- Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) tied his career high with four hits and four RBI and
Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) delivered the game-winning RBI as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Georgia State, 14-13, in a 10-inning slugfest that clinched the series victory.
Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N,.J.) hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored twice for The Hall (4-1) and three other Pirates collected two RBI.
Michael Gillen (Rochelle Park, N.J.) struck out five batters in three innings out of the bullpen to earn the win.
How It Happened
Luders got the offensive outburst going with a solo home run on the game's first pitch. Pokrovsky would later score on a wild pitch and
Kevin Milewski (Wallingford, Conn.) drove in an RBI single that gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead early. After cutting its deficit to one with two runs in the bottom of the second, the Panthers took their first lead of the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second that made it 5-4.
Seton Hall responded with a four-run top of the third inning 8-5 Pirates, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of
Kyle Lyons (West Chester, Pa.) and Luders' third RBI of the day on a run-scoring base hit. Georgia State went on to score runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to jump back in front, 9-8. Pokrovsky's first home run of the season tied the score up at 9-9 in the top of the sixth before an RBI groundout broke the tie to make it 10-9.
Despite holding a 13-11 lead entering the bottom of the eighth, Georgia State rallied with two runs that tied the score up once again at 13-13. After Gillen worked a scoreless ninth, the Pirates jumped in front for good in the top of the 10th inning on an RBI single by Melnick that plated Aiden Robbinis (Yardley, Pa.).
