Stats

South Orange, N.J. – Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) tossed her fifth consecutive complete game, allowing four hits and one run over seven innings as Seton Hall defeated DePaul, 4-1, in the opener of a three-game series on Friday.

How it Happened
Carr worked a clean top of the first in the circle and then helped out her own cause in the bottom half with the bat in her hands. After Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Carr drove her in with an RBI single to give The Hall an early lead.

In the third, the Pirates added on for two more runs. Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) laced an RBI double to left center, allowing Carr to come around and score the second Seton Hall run. Later in the frame with the bases loaded, Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) sent a hard grounder back up the middle to make it a 3-0 game.

DePaul would crack the scoreboard in the fifth on an RBI double to make it a 3-1 game, but the home side would answer swiftly. Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) led off the bottom of the fifth with a long home run to left field to stretch the advantage up to 4-1.

Carr got the first two outs of the top of the seventh in short order, however a hit by pitch and back-to-back walks loaded the bases and brought the go-ahead run to the plate. Carr induced a lineout to shortstop, where Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) made a great sprawling play to her left to end the game.

News & Notes
  • Over her five straight complete games, Carr has allowed only three runs over those 35 innings.
  • Gilbert went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.
  • Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 and now has two multi-hit efforts in her last four outings.
  • Brennan's RBI double increases her total on the season to 29, the second-most on the club.
