Marquette 75, Seton Hal 54 (F) – Jan. 6, 2024 (Walsh Gymnasium)

AGAINST MARQUETTE

Seton Hall and Marquette will renew their rivalry on Jan. 15 in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles own a 20-11 all-time series lead and have won three in a row including a sweep of the home-and-home series last season. The Pirates have never won in Milwaukee, but are 3-0 on the road this season. Marquette is 8-1 at home.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE

Cara Consuegra will coach her first year at the helm at Marquette after spending 13 seasons at Charlotte. The Golden Eagles went 23-9 overall and tied for third in BIG EAST play with an 11-7 league mark. They made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years but fell in the first round to Ole Miss. Marquette looks to fill the roles of its leading scorers, Liza Karlen, Jordan King, and Mackenzie Hare, from last year.

Heading into this season, Marquette was picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the conference’s coaches’ poll.

The Golden Eagles have exceeded expectations so far this year, finishing the non-conference portion of its schedule with an 8-3 record and winning three of their first five BIG EAST Conference contests. Marquette defeated both Butler and Villanova at home, and went to Chicago to rout DePaul by 19 points. The Golden Eagles have found a scoring lift from Skylar Forbes, whose 15.8 points per game currently ranks eighth-most in the BIG EAST. Lee Volker and Halle Vice are also averaging in double-figures in scoring.

Marquette is coming off a 64-59 victory over Villanova on Saturday. A tall team, the Golden Eagles currently lead the BIG EAST with 40.6 rebounds and 4.75 blocks per contest.

From Bryan Felt…

This message from Bryan is long overdue and were it not for the growing criticism of our basketball program would likely never have been sent. Seton Hall needs to be in front of the issues it’s facing and not always playing catch-up as we are with our response to NIL and fundraising in general and to athletics specifically. The message from Bryan is just a start and should be part of a new wave of communication with the Seton Hall fan base and supporters.

Prince Aligbe

yes. but he got and then missed very makable shots all year. now hes making them.
Exactly. 3/11 against Fordham, 1/7 against Hofstra, 2/8 against Wagner and VCU etc.

He’s getting after it and making a difference. Glad to see the progress.

One of the hopeful things about him when he signed was he was .550 from 2PT (22nd) in ACC play. Maybe that’s rounding into form. We’ll see.

For the no censorship crowd

A mis and dis info scenario has been circulating in the right wing media in the last day about who attended chelsea Clinton wedding. This comes as billy bush did a tucker show recently. It was put together in right wing circles that a msnbc exec and the wash post writer both attended chelsea wedding and the trump bush tape leak on access hollywood was arranged from then. Even jd vance reacted to this today. I know who def did attend...donald j trump....and the problem here is that the undereducated just take these tidbits as confirmed fact and truth

Best Pirate Backcourt Defenders Last 25 years

I know I am 800 years old but I would nominate Nick Galis. Back in the 70's when broadcasting on WSOU a holiday tourney when the Hall was playing Tenn with Ernie and Bernie. I interviewed Raf and asked the question of how he was going to stop Ernie. His answer was classic ' "I'm going to put a Greek in his jock." Setonia hoops back in the day.
I remember listening to that game on WSOU when I was as living in Union. My wife was thrilled.
