Accountability for Bryan Felt

Need some accountability for our athletic department personnel. Seton hall has the lowest NIL budget amongst all power conference teams. There’s 0 communication about what’s being done, 0 outreach to fans and most casual hall fans don’t even know where to donate.

Felt needs to be accountable, best case replaced. in no other job can anyone have such a clear failure and continue to serve in the role. Hopefully the school can communicate something moving forward

Non-Conference Thoughts

According to Carino it's our first losing non-conference season since 1982-83.

1). 300th in OE, 34th in DE. The Hall is 361st in FT%, 341st in 2PT% (getting better! lol), 319th in turnover % offensively, 360th in tempo. Wowowowow. That says it all about what we've watched. We're opponents "bad loss" now.

2). Some of the worst games I've watched this program play ever. Boring, ugly, 3 heartbreaking losses at the buzzer, the run of not even getting to 60, getting our asses kicked against Monmouth at home, it has zapped any life from a program that isn't media or fan friendly to begin with. There are down years, and then there's this. You probably could've dropped 3-4 of these player salaries and gotten one better impact player from it. It'll be interesting to see how Sha approaches roster building this Spring. This should be a wake-up call to everyone. You're opening a beautiful new facility and now need to really figure out what in the world the approach is to NIL and player acquisition.

3). The team has been terrible, but there has been some improvement lately in flow compared to where it was. That's not saying much overall, but it's something, and it's coming from the only positive thing to watch: Coleman, Middleton, Dual. Hope they continue to get better and we retain them instead of being a feeder program. Coleman can be an impact player. The younger players are proving better than the older and are getting better. Sha is now reflecting that in the minutes. Good to see. Funny that Aligbe starts - probably bc of his practice habits and leadership? - but only gets 10-15 MPG now.

4). Trying to find things to look for, the development at center will also be interesting to watch, I guess. One kind of average back-up, two freshmen with some upside in different ways. But again, back to young player development that goes where long term?

5). The DAW usage is a killer. We saw that again at Rutgers. I know what we're trying to do with him as a 5th year guy, 2nd year with Sha, and not having Harmon, but it's simply not there as a player. And forget it when he's at PG. The team has three 5th-year players in Addae-Wusu, Toumi, and Jenkins who would be solid bench players on a good team. Maybe more from Jenkins. They are not providing us an edge despite the experience. Unfortunate.
A thoughtful post that hits a lot of the key points as to where the program is at. When this team played so poorly and lost games to teams like Monmouth and Fordham the general reaction was to show patience and see if the weaknesses were correctable and the team improve. Continuing to show patience is wearing thin and losing games like we did to RU aren’t helping and only adding to the pessimism this season is bringing.

Non-Conference Thoughts

Dylan played 33 min and shot 3-10. Id rather isaiah and chaunce getting those minutes instead. Dylan is a strong guard and im sure shaheen can count on his defense but we need more offense badley
He’s been struggling all year playing out position. High minutes and usage rate for a 91 o-rating. The level of defender you’d need to be to offset that doesn’t exist on the team.

But that’s this team. Dual can’t play 40 mins at the point and Jenkins should be left as a floor spacer, catch-and-shoot; he’s not great with the ball on the floor. Felton can’t see the light of day and Sha prefers these physical types like DAW.

We’re still not partnering with Frank The Tank?

I feel like I'm going nuts here
The school *did* partner with Frank. That's why he's at the games at all. There was even a while article earlier this year about how it was all McBride's idea.

And Sha did a Frank Walk.

Harper

That’s a bit of an overreaction. As talented as their freshman are that’s just not the model for success in college basketball in 2024. Most prognosticators had them as an 8-10 seed type team that had potential to win a game.

Outside of maybe an irrational/low IQ RU fan no one had them as a protected seed.
They were at the low end of the Top 25 at the start of the season, so that’s not quite but pretty close

Agreed. I think something worse than a “bubble team” year is a disappointment for them, not an outright disaster. And the reality is those two kids benefit RU hoops in ways beyond wins on the floor. Both now and for the future. That’s what two lottery picks can do, especially in this area where Harper played at a well known prep and is basketball royalty.

Uconn's McNeely

McNeely is a player - one of the best newcomers in NCAA hoops. He can ball on so many different levels. Plays like a four year guy. (Although the head band is a tad irritating) He'll be the leader of the Conn team by the end of the season (sorry Alex Karaban). Thank goodness he is definitely a one and done. We'll only have three plus more months of him abusing the Big East and the Hall.

We’re still not partnering with Frank The Tank?

I would hope not, that’s general athletics PR. Thts the AD’s and others jobs. Nothing to do with NIL.
What? You would hope the "Deputy AD for revenue generation, NIL & strategic initiatives" isn't the lead on the contract for the company that's going to be selling our 2 primary revenue generating assets (tickets and corporate partnerships) for the next 12 years?
