Quite the take by Mr. Schwab. Beat them twice, we’re tied for third in BE they are basically in last (apologies to Gtown and DePaul). I guess hes all about the metrics.

So, playing at UBS instead of MSG or Carnesecca Arena turned out to be a blessing for Seton Hall. They came a long way back and did it rather quickly. We still have to see the big picture effects from this win. Absolute Kudos to the SHU Booster Club and all the fans that made their way to the game. The start time was ideal for a holiday weekend and allowed our fans to get there. I would not say a large percentage, but a good showing. I believe the SHU fans really became a factor at about 45-45. It made a difference and allowed The Hall to maintain their momentum after the fantastic defense in the second half. The coach and team really appreciated the support and went out of their way to acknowledge The Hall fans at the end of the game. We also have to be fair and say the SJU shooters helped us with just putrid shooting.

I'm not sure what to make of the SJU fan support. They were there and you can tell there is a dormant fan base in that Queens/Long Island area. As opposed to the atmosphere at Carnesecca or The Garden the fans were never fully dialed in. There was a bit of a weird vibe I thought possibly because they had higher expectations with Pitino. Students were not good there either. The arena itself was nice and would be perfect for a top team. I still think $17 dollars for a beer is criminal, really at all venues. Let's be honest concession prices are disgraceful.

The bottom line is that Seton Hall showed guts with the comeback and elevated play in the second half. Sha's Technical changed the landscape. Dre is an absolute warrior for playing and being a factor. Richmond played a terrible first half, but rebounded. That was good to see. Dawes continues to push Seton Hall over the top with his productivity in these important wins. A truly terrific free throw shooter. Seton Hall has 4 more realistic chances for wins, the three home games and the first game of The BigEast Tournament. "And Down The Stretch They Come." Rest well Secretariat.

Found it interesting that one of Rick's prevalent themes on the postmortem of his team's loss to the Pirates was their lack of toughness. Pretty funny that he gave walking papers to the 2 toughest guys on St Johns (Posh and Wusu) when he took over. Think he's regretting that a little?🤔

Elmont, N.Y. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team fought back from a 19-point deficit late in the first half to take home a 68-62 victory over St. John's on Sunday night inside UBS Arena.

Three Pirates scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) and an 18-point, 11-rebound effort from Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.), despite missing the second half in the win over Xavier and limited practice time due to an ankle injury, came off the bench to add 15 points and seven rebounds.

The comeback is the largest by Seton Hall since overcoming a 19-point deficit to beat Penn State on Dec. 6, 2020. It is also the largest comeback in a BIG EAST game by the Pirates since erasing a 20-point St. John's lead in a 69-61 overtime win on Jan. 4, 2006.

How It Happened

The Red Storm jumped out to an 8-0 lead and they held on to a 12-4 advantage at the 15:25 mark in the first half. A free throw and back-to-back layups made by Bediako made it a three-point game, 12-9. However, St. John's used a 7-0 run that pushed their lead to 10, 19-9, with 10:58 left in the first half.

St. John's extended their lead to 19 with 3:09 to go before halftime before the Pirates started being aggressive and getting to the foul line. Davis scored the Pirates' next four points before a layup by Richmond and four-straight points at the free throw line by Dawes capped off a 10-3 run that closed the first half and trimmed its deficit to 12 at the break, 41-29.

Seton Hall flipped the script in the second half and it started on the defensive end. The Pirates went on an 18-4 run that turned an 11-point deficit in to a two-point lead, 47-45, with 8:15 to go. In that span of 11-plus minutes, The Hall held St. John's to just one made field goals as the Red Storm went 1-of-10 from the floor. After St. John's drew within one with 7:58 to play, Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) converted a traditional three-point play that made it a two-possession game and it gave the Pirates their largest lead of the game to that point, 50-46.

St. John's went back in front by one, 53-52, on a three-point basket with just over five minutes left but The Hall used a 9-0 run, highlighted by a Dawes three at the top of the arc that made it a four-point game, that gave the Pirates a commanding 61-53 lead.

• Holloway is now 2-2 all-time against Rick Pitino and 4-3 against St. John's in his career.

LAST GAME
The Seton Hall women's basketball team led at halftime, but shot only 32 percent from the field in the second half and fell at St. John's, 68-57, in Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday.

It's the first time this season that the Pirates have lost despite leading at the half (13-1). St. John's took the lead with an 11-0 run early in the third quarter and never trailed again.

Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) and Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) led the Pirates with 12 points apiece. Satterfield also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Seton Hall and DePaul will square off on Saturday for the 32nd time in history. The Blue Demons have largely dominated the series, winning 24 of the prior meetings, but the Pirates have won two of the last three contests. The Hall is 2-11 all-time against DePaul in Walsh Gymnasium.

SCOUTING DE PAUL
DePaul has new look in 2023-24 following the departure of its top three scorers. Veterans Anaya Peoples and Jorie Allen have led the Blue Demons, who also added transfers from Notre Dame, UCLA and Michigan, along with a hefty freshman class. DePaul nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals last year, finishing the year 16-17 overall and 8-12 in conference play.

The Blue Demons were picked to finish seventh in the 11-team BIG EAST this year according to the preseason coaches' poll. Peoples was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Peoples has emerged as one of the premier players in the BIG EAST Conference this season and is a leading contender for the Most Improved Player award. She currently ranks sixth in the conference averaging 17.7 points per game.

DePaul enters Saturday's contest with a 12-15 record overall and a 4-10 mark in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demons have dropped six of their last eight games, including the last two. They're coming off a 69-58 loss to Marquette on Tuesday. DePaul leads the BIG EAST in steals per game and offensive rebounds per contest.

Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, February 20 when it makes the trip to Milwaukee, Wis. for a contest at Marquette. Any word about his injury?

It is very, very hard to keep a 15-20 point lead for an entire game.....especially against a high-scoring team like Xavier.

Sha never let them let up, even without Dre. Did not foolishly sub. Xavier could cut it down to single digits on the break in minutes. Masterclass.

Of course, it helps to have an absolute magician on your side!

Have to take follow-up tests (X-rays and cat scans, but no MRI as I can't stay for long periods of time yet on my back) in the hospital early tomorrow. When I get home later in the morning I'll update the site.

It sounds like a broken record but @GrMtWoods was again one of those, improving to an astounding 65-10 through 75 games, and still leads by four games over @hallball. Four players are tied for third at 60-15, still an incredible record this deep into the season.
