According to a story by The New York Times, "The Champion's layout at PGA National is 7,045 yards of venom, a king cobra of a course that rises without warning to strike down the world's best golfers. Snake charmers may have a better chance of taming it than the players at The Honda Classic."

THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Florida Atlantic, the field includes 10 other schools: Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Central Florida, Jacksonville State, North Alabama, Stetson, Temple, Toledo, UAB, and USF.

THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

LAST TIME OUT:
Senior George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) fired a 5-under-par, 139, to win the 2024 GlenArbor Invite and lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a second-place finish on Sunday.

Fricker had six birdies and eight pars in route to a 3-under-par, 69, in round one, followed by five more birdies in round two on his way to a 2-under-par, 70. The Seton Hall senior won the individual title by one stroke over Harvard's William Ma with a 5-under-par, 69-70-139. It's Fricker's second career victory and eighth top-10 finish.

As a team, The Hall improved a remarkable 18 stroke from round one to round two. It shot a 21-over-par, 309, in round one, but bounced back for a field-best 3-over-par, 291, in round two. For the tournament, the Pirates were 24-over-par with a 309-291-600. Harvard won the event at 9-over-par.

THE SCHEDULE:
The teams will play two continuous rounds on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Temple, UAB and North Alabama for rounds one and two, starting on holes six through 10. A final round will also begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Pirates clinch spot in BIG EAST Championship Playoffs, Secure first 10-win season since 2005

CINCINNATI, OH. – A penalty kick conversion from Til Kauschke proved to be the difference in Seton Hall's men soccer team's 1-0 victory over Xavier in Cincinnati. With the victory, the Pirates secured a spot in the BIG EAST Championship Playoffs and their first 10-win regular season since 2005.

The Pirates came out of the gate in this road matchup searching for a goal, nearly finding one in the sixth minute. The Pirates were offered a chance at redemption in the 39th minute when a handball in the box served the Pirates an opportunity to take the lead on a penalty kick. Despite Xavier pressing for the equalizer over the remaining 50 minutes, the Pirates defense and goalkeeper Matias Molina sat on the head and secured the 1-0 victory.

With the win, The Hall moves to 10-4-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pirates put pressure on Xavier early in the game with a strong offensive press. Freshman Til Kauschke launched a shot from the top of the box in the 6th minute that barely clanged off the crossbar and kept the game scoreless. Kauschke would not be denied however, as in the 39th minute he converted a penalty kick caused by a Musketeer handball to put the Pirates up 1-0.
In the second half, Seton Hall and Xavier exchanged offensive pressure throughout the half. Then in the 74th minute, the Pirates' Agustin Resch nearly scored a second for the Pirates goal off a corner kick. However, the Musketeers headed the ball off on the goal line, quashing a strong Pirates chance.
In the final 10 minutes, Seton Hall goalkeeper Matias Molina faced immense pressure from a Xavier side that was seeking to keep their season alive. However, strong goal keeping from Molina and great defending from the Pirates' elite backline secured the 1-0 victory and three massive points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Til Kauschkescored his third goal of the season
  • This was the Pirates third penalty kick goal of the season.
• Matias Molina registered two saves, pushing his season total to 21.
• Molina also registered his fourth clean sheet of the season.
• The Pirates had four shots on goal to the Musketeers' two.

Heard poll referenced yesterday that indicated that them number one reason voters were for Harris is that they despise Trump; but primary reason voters were polling with Trump was economy, border and crime.

It has become routine for Shaheen Holloway.

His teams are typically overlooked.

They are dismissed.

It happened at Saint Peter’s and it’s happening at Seton Hall.

Last year, Seton Hall was picked to finish ninth in the Big East by the league’s coaches and they were one of the big surprises of the season by coming in fourth and winning the NIT.

A year later, nothing has changed.

The Pirates are projected to be 10th, ahead of only perennial doormat DePaul.

Now, it should be noted, Seton Hall did lose star players Kadary Richmond (St. John’s) and Dre Davis (Ole Miss) to the transfer portal.

Al-Amir Dawes is playing professionally in Greece.

The roster is almost completely new, the lone key returnees are Dylan Addae-Wusu and Isaiah Coleman.

It’s difficult to predict Seton Hall.

“It is what it is, brother,” Holloway said on Wednesday as the Big East held media day at the Garden. “People got time to sit around and pick other people’s teams, it’s kind of nuts. I’m not worried about nobody else. … You know me, I don’t really care if we’re [picked] first or last. Oh well.

“It doesn’t mean anything. It’s preseason. I just care about my team. You know me, you know my teams, we get better as the year goes on. So right now, I’m not happy where we are, but I think we’re going to be really good. I think we have a chance.”

Holloway doesn’t want anyone feeling bad for Seton Hall after it was hurt by the transfer portal, and he doesn’t expect any sympathy, either.

It’s the way of the sport now.

Plus, he seems to like what he has.

He sees depth, more options at point guard than last year’s team had and potential in this group.

Two of the key newcomers, Scotty Middleton (Ohio State) and Garwey Dual (Providence), didn’t have big freshmen seasons at their former schools, but they were highly regarded, four-star prospects.

“Scotty and ‘G’ have something to prove, to themselves and everybody else,” Holloway said. “With me, they got a fresh start, a new start. I’m curious to see how they take advantage of it.”

Coleman has been encouraged so far.

He believes there is more talent on this roster than last year’s NIT champion, despite Richmond and Davis moving on.

Perhaps most importantly, it’s a group of guys with a desire to improve, and now they’ll have even extra motivation.

“The guys, they’re hungry to get in the gym and just get better. Guys are hitting me, you trying to get some shots up, trying to get this workout in,’” Coleman said. “Guys are itching to get in the gym. That’s good to know.”

It’s part of why Holloway is “intrigued” by this team, a group of players with a chip on their shoulders.

Then again, the Pirates are even a mystery to him.

But there is reason to believe the man who took tiny Saint Peter’s to the Elite Eight and overachieved a year ago with the Pirates will maximize the roster’s talent.

At this time last year, nobody expected much out of Seton Hall, and look how that turned out.

I saw one of those shutouts at Shea. As I remember, the Mets had bases loaded and a few on in the early innings but didnt score. I was in Mexicon on vacation, walking past an old bar in Puerto Vallarta with my girl when a roar went up. I peaked in to see what happened, and saw Fernando on the TV. 55 young Mexican guys, my girl and I watched the Dodgers that night. Cervezas for everyone!!
