Still no respect

The Jets and Giants have been so bad for so long that despite playing well few are taking them seriously.

The 6-1 Giants are playing the 4-3 Seahawks and are 3 point dogs. That's at least understandable as it is a road game.

How about the 5-2 Jets playing the 3-4 Patriots. That is a Jet home game with the Pat's playing Monday night and getting destroyed by the lowly Browns.

Despite that the Jet's are 2 1/2 underdogs. I understand what has happened in the past as the Jets haven't beaten New England in forever. But does the past have anything to do with the current state of these two team?

Opinions?

More Wasting Money

Auburn fired its head coach Bryan Harsin in just his second season today with a buyout of $15.5 million paid over two years. Harsin replaced Gus Malzan whose buyout was $21.7 million and If my math is right that’s a total of $37.2 million . Not only do you have to ask how schools justify wasting money like that and yet we see no great outcry because winning is goal number 1 , no matter how much it costs.

I would love to know just how much monies have been paid in coaching buyouts over just the last ten years and I would speculate its larger then most would guess.

Michigan State players beat up two Michigan players in tunnel: ‘assaulted’

By Associated Press

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan State players roughed up Michigan defensive back Ja’Den McBurrows in the Michigan Stadium tunnel following their game Saturday night.

After the fourth-ranked Wolverines beat the Spartans 29-7, social media posts showed at least three Michigan State players pushing, punching and kicking McBurrows in and near a hallway that does not lead to either locker room.

Police have launched an investigation into an ugly postgame fight, according to the Detroit News.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said a second player, who he did not identify, was also attacked and one was injured and might have a broken nose.

“Two of our players were assaulted,” Harbaugh said. “I saw on the one video. Ten on one. It was pretty bad.

“It needs to be investigated.”

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said the police and Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren, who attended the game, are looking into the fracas.

A message seeking comment was left with Warren and Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller.

“What happened after the game was completely unacceptable,” Manuel said. “I talked to the commissioner. He’s looking into it. The police is looking into it because they’ve seen the video. This is not how we should interact after the game.

“This is not what the rivalry should be about. It should not be how it is remembered.”

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker said he did not know what happened in the tunnel after the game.

“I know it was a heated game,” Tucker said. “We were trying to get our guys in the locker room. We’ll have to see what happened.”

It is the second straight game at Michigan that included an altercation in the long, narrow tunnel that goes from the locker rooms to the field.

Earlier this month, Penn State coach James Franklin said a policy change was needed to keep the process of teams using the tunnel more orderly.

A lot of heated words were exchanged and Michigan players said Penn State players threw peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at them as the teams headed to the locker room at halftime of a close game the Wolverines ultimately won in a 41-17 rout on Oct. 15.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Franklin acted as a “ringleader” and claimed the Nittany Lions stopped in the tunnel to prevent his team from accessing its locker room.

South Orange, N.J. – The Pirates wrapped up their regular season schedule on Saturday night, finishing in a scoreless draw with Butler. Prior to the match, the Pirates honored 11 departing seniors on Senior Night.

How it Happened
The two sides engaged in a defensive first half that featured five total shots. Neither team was able to formulate too dangerous of a chance, but the most threatening opportunity came in the 34th minute. Butler's Wilmer Cabrera dribbled a ball inside the penalty area, forcing Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden) to come off his line. Cabrera tried to chip the ball over Ronnholmen, but the senior reached up to tip it away.

Ronnholmen was called upon to make another save early in the second half, once again coming off a Cabrera shot. The Butler attacker danced through the Pirate defense and laced a shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Ronnholmen dove to his left to make a beautiful save to keep things scoreless.

The closest opportunity of the evening for the Pirates came from JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) in the 55th minute. After a ball was passed back to Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) adjacent to the penalty area, the defender swung a cross into the box. Marin timed his jump well about 12 yards from goal, but his header sailed just over the crossbar.

One more late chance formed for Seton Hall in the 87th minute as the attack pressed to find another late go-ahead goal. Quenzi Huerman (Vannes, France) found the ball at his foot from about 22 yards out and rifled a shot towards the near post. Butler goalkeeper Gabriel Gjergi dove to his left to make the stop to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard.

News & Notes
  • With the draw, the Pirates will have to wait until the conclusion of Wednesday's matches to determine their seeding for the BIG EAST Tournament.
  • Due to UConn's draw tonight, the Pirates can finish no lower than third in the BIG EAST standings.
  • With the draw, Seton Hall completes an unbeaten regular season home schedule for the second time in the last three seasons.
  • The seven draws this season extends the new program record for ties in a single season.
  • Ronnholmen's shutout is his sixth of the season, tying him for the second most clean sheets in a season in program history. It's the most shutouts by a Pirate goalkeeper in a season since Julian Spindler, who has seven back in 2014.
  • Luca Dahn has played wire-to-wire in 45 of his 48 career matches, including 14 of his 15 matches this season.
  • The Pirates honored 11 seniors prior to the match: Torre Avitabile, James Boote, Luca Dahn, Quenzi Huerman, Hugo Keller, Denis Kelmendi, JP Marin, Eden O'Leary, Johannes Pex, Paavo Riihijarvi and Hannes Ronnholmen.
Up Next
The Pirates will await the results of the Xavier-Butler match on Wednesday night to determine their seeding in the BIG EAST Tournament. Should the Pirates receive a bye, they will next take the pitch on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Md. If the Pirates host a quarterfinal match, it will be held at Owen T. Carroll Field next Saturday, Nov. 5.

JETS/GIANTS QB'S & THE #1 DRAFT PICK

One thing you have to consider with Quarterbacks is how good their team is. It's hard to be successful with no receivers or offensive line. The jury is still out on Jones & Darnold. I think both could be good, tho not elite, if they had a good supporting cast. The draft is always a crap shoot. You look at the draft and see Wilson in 3rd round, Brady in 6th or Romo undrafted. Then you have San Diego giving up on Drew Brees after his 3rd year. Also the Jets and Giants both had QB's like Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson still available when they picked. It is easy to be an expert while looking in a rear view mirror. The real weakness of both teams was poor GM's who continuously made bad moves and draft picks.

So here is my question: if either the Jets or Giants have the first pick this year do you trade Jones or Darnold & pick Trevor Lawrence at #1, keep the current QB & draft the top non QB player in the draft or trade the top pick for a bounty of additional picks ? Your thoughts ?

OT: Charity fundraiser Saturday

Hello Pirate Nation! I co-founded a media startup with a few partners earlier this year. We are doing our first charity fundraiser live stream event tomorrow. We're fundraising for "From We Can't 2 We Can", a 501(c)3 organization in South Jersey that creates initiatives and programs for children with disabilities.

I know times are tough for some, and there's a lot of people asking folks to donate for a variety of different causes both inside and outside of SHU, but just a few dollars goes a long way and we're grateful for any amount donated, even $1.

Our live event starts at 3 and runs through the evening for those that want to check out our live event. Fundraising closes at midnight tomorrow and thank you in advance for your generosity!

2023 Remaining Recruits

Wanted to start a new thread since the others got a bit off track. I saw on twitter that Ladji Dembele is visting today for practice and that we recently offered Isaiah Watts from South Kent. Curious if anyone has any intel here. Aside from Fall and Diop who are clearly longshots, not sure who else we are tracking with Ty-Laur Johnson and Aaron Clark seemingly headed elsewhere.
