Gilbert's Three-RBI Day Leads Hall Past Friars, 9-2

Stats

South Orange, N.J. –Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) had two hits and drove in three runs while Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) earned the win with five hitless innings in relief as the Pirates took the rubber match of their three-game series with Providence, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Seton Hall has now won each of its last four BIG EAST series.

How it Happened
Gilbert's first RBI came in the bottom of the first inning, as she brought home Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) on a sacrifice fly to give the Pirates the early lead. Providence would answer back with a pair in the second inning to put itself ahead, 2-1, after two innings.

Carr entered the game in the third in relief, working around a two-out walk to keep the Pirates within one. In the bottom half, Hill opened the frame with a long home run to right field to tie the game. Carr and Gilbert followed with back-to-back doubles to produce the go-ahead run. Gilbert would eventually score herself after a sacrifice fly from Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) made it 4-2 in favor of the Pirates.

Carr kept cruising in the circle, retiring the side in order in both the fourth and fifth innings. Her offense rewarded her efforts with some extra insurance runs in the later innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) laced an RBI single to center which made it a 5-2 game. Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) would then loft a fly ball to left, allowing Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) to tag up and score the sixth Seton Hall run.

In the sixth, The Hall would score three more times to salt the game away. With runners on second and third, Gilbert knocked in her third run of the game with a groundout to shortstop. Next, Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) lined a double to left center which scored Carr from second. Later in the inning, Allen dropped a double into left field to score Brennan and make it a 9-2 game.

Reich, Ehly Combine For One-Hitter In 1-0 Win Over Georgetown

Stats

Tysons, Va. - Ryan Reich (Sellinsgrove, Pa.) threw seven no-hit innings and struck out a career-high 13 batters before Anthony Ely (Glenside, Pa.) retired six of the final eight batters that sealed Seton Hall's 1-0, one-hit victory over Georgetown in game two of the Pirates' BIG EAST opening series on Saturday.

Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) went 2-for-4 and drove in the game's lone run on an RBI double that scored Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y.). Ehly had three strikeouts in two innings of work for the Pirates (17-13) as he registered his first career save.

Reich's 13 strikeouts are the most in a single game for a Seton Hall pitcher since Tyler Burnham struck out 14 batters in his no-hitter against Georgetown on May 3, 2021.

How It Happened

Reich was perfect through the first five innings of the game where he recorded eight strikeouts, tallying at least one strikeout in each inning. Reich was getting stronger as the game wore on and especially so in the fifth inning where he struck out the side in order.

The Pirates put on just three baserunners in the game's first five innings before Bianco reached on an infield error with one out. The next batter was D'Amico and he sent a double to the center field wall that plated Bianco from first and gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Seton Hall drew back-to-back walks in the inning but two quick outs ended the threat.

After Reich struck out the first two batters of the sixth inning, he allowed his first walk of the ballgame before striking out the side again. D'Amico picked up his second hit of the game in the seventh but he was left stranded, keeping the score at 1-0 Pirates.

Ehly came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning and he struck out the first batter he faced before ultimately working out of trouble. Seton Hall went down in order in the ninth inning but Ehly retired the side and picked up two strikeouts that sealed the win and tied up the series at 1-1.

Final Donation Total

We just got another bump from a prominent poster that does not want his name mentioned. And Robert Lenahan as well.

Our new and final total is a whopping $107,080.00

A truly amazing total thanks to Mike Walsh and our readers here. This money will allow Sha to keep a player or maybe help him to recruit a new one. Either way it is going to be critical for him to have.

Again, thank you all. You have greatly surpassed my wildest dreams.

Final Donation push to reach $100K - To date $101,980

Two posters on the Trove, Aross1995 and SHUballs have offered to donate $1,000 each if in the last two days of the Match we can get a total of $98K. That would put the final Match number at an incredible $100K.

We are $7500 short of that total to date.

I wasn't going to post any more targets because you guys have been fantastic,. But now that has changed because of our two Trove members.

Pls help if you can.
