#15 Marquette beats # 6 Purdue

I was too low on Marquette heading into the year. They’re really good.
I've been pegging them in the top 3 with my predictions and outlook, and we all know early season results aren't always indicative of where a team ends up in March. But if Jones is going to be able to play the "facilitator" role as effectively as he did last night, in addition to his scoring-ability (which he has always been able to do at a high level), that's going to make them dangerous with the shooters and athletes Shaka can put around him.

I do wonder if teams with more formidable front lines are going to give them problems certain games in the paint and on the the glass. Because both Gold and Joplin are definitely stretch 4s and 5s as opposed to guys who are going to protect the rim and kill you on the glass. Obviously though Purdue fits the mold of the type of team that can hurt you there and it didn't impact them last night.

MU has played the toughest non conf schedule so far and have been outstanding. Still early but I could see them winning the BE regular season title. But a long way to go. Will start learning a lot about UCONN, Creighton, and St John’s over the next 10 days.

Creighton and Uconn haven't played anyone yet. St john's already has a convincing W over New Mexico which is a good OOC win. Xavier has a convincing W over Wake who was picked preseason 3rd in the ACC.

Marquette is one of the best situations in the country.

1. They have a ton of money to the extent Shaka has the freedom to choose how he operates and can manage a traditional program method of player development and retention in this NIL age. Endowment, boosters, NIL, you name it.

2. They have a good coach who is from the State and connects on a personal level. He’s not looking at the next best thing either as he’s already been down that road.

3. They have great facilities.

4. Their fan support is tremendous. They average 15k/game for years.

Piratz - I would add to your list that they play a very fun and watchable style.Thought Team would miss Kolek but not so much.

Frickin shooters. That team is like Creighton with their perimeter shooting traditionally.

Plus they get lots of possessions by scoring early in the shot clock.

They move really well without the ball and always look for the extra pass to get an open shot.

They make it really hard on defenses to cover them. And it makes them super dangerous at the end of games because they aren’t taxed like other teams’ starters.

MU’s only weakness is in the paint defensively and in the glass . Gold is 7’+ but plays like a wing. That could hurt them going forward but I like the way they play.
