It's so simple to say that this year we had no NIL money and couldn't assemble an appropriate roster. It's foolish to think that next year with comparable money we will be competitive. We are sooooooooooo far behind any legitimate program in terms of management, personnel, and leadership. The veritable brain trust we have is going to be responsible for $5-6M in spend. None of them were hired for this. Sha was hired to coach a team and recruit. Now we expect him to make strategic decisions about salary cap/NIL distributions. Felt...hahahahaha.

There is a reason why other schools have a GM amongst other roles which would require a significant investment that SHU will never make. So we will throw crap at the wall and misallocate money and hopefully not finish 11th. SHU is small ball....

sometimes u need to hit rock bottom in order to figure out what you need and how much $ in order to move forward.

Everything depends on budget but I think Isaiah and Godswill need to be priorities. Felton maybe but at the 2 and not as a pg. Again, everyone including those 3 are replaceable. Bigs especially are so difficult to find.

It’s usually a far reach to roll it back with the same people and expect a different result. But it is possible. That’s what we don’t know. Were hands tied? Or is it incompetency? Why is there such a glaring lack of anything with our Athletic Department? Marketing, Fundraising, NIL preparation, why is it so lacking?

We go 7-24, 2-18 and have other coaches and media types publicly shaming us? This happened on someone’s watch.

The explanation is…?

Just curious. What is your solution? Just give up?

I don't think that Felt is blameless here but to single him out as the problem is ridiculous. Thankfully they are finally trying to right the ship. That's a good thing.
I think his solution is to hire a GM, who knows what they are doing possibly? Also prob to hire a marketing firm or experienced marketer for our flagship program to help with fan excitement, student excitment, and fundraising. I agree with OP, felt has been a failure.

The roster wasn’t even updated on the Shupirates site with names bios and pictures till November…even the lady pirates had it updated by August.

Besides this site, not owned by seton hall, a few fanatic posters on Twitter (not seton hall employees) , and carino (who always favorable to SHU and at the same time has been mostly shut out but not a seton hall employee ) where else can do you find off season info?

while Sha did a dreadful job this year, it’s almost equal to how Felt did with creating this climate IMHO.

Felt isn't THE problem, but I think many here and elsewhere are inclined to feel he is A problem. Save for a few here, I don't think anyone wants to "give up", but you also can't just keep throwing whatever meager money we have up in the air and hope it lands where we want it to. What do I know? Nothing. But what do I think? I think we need to strip down and rebuild this thing, and do it with purpose in our step so its done timely.

Felt is not the answer at AD, I'm sorry. He either has had the reigns for multiple years now and evidently isn't good enough to do the job we need, or he's being hamstrung and he just doesn't have the moxie and creativity to work through it. In either case, this athletic program has been driven into the ground again and we can't settle for this. I'm all for giving people a chance, but if it's become obvious that they can't solve the riddle that is Seton Hall, we have to move on and try someone else. I can guarantee there's a person out there than can solve it, but our search radius needs to extend further than 70 miles and beyond our school's rolodex of usual haunts for personnel to find them.

No clue if McBride is the answer at his position. People are welcome to correct me here, but I feel like he's gone radio silent for the better part of a year now. That also seems to be the MO for our school, so I can't say that's on him personally, but as of now he's the "NIL" guy and we don't seem to read or hear about any significant deals or partnerships for our program or athletes. I'm struggling to find anything new that our guys and girls are involved in. So if he is doing a great job, it sure would be reassuring and invigorating to the fans to be made aware of it. If those things aren't happening, again, there's somebody else out there that can make them happen for us and we need to be looking for them.

Coaching staff needs to evolve. I love Coach Sha. I always have. Tremendous player and equally tremendous basketball IQ. That all buys a lot of loyalty from me. The rest of the coaching staff - I honestly don't know. If they are coaching gurus, they are failing. Our players were bad fundamentally on both sides of the ball from bell to bell this season. I don't know how practices are conducted under Sha, but if they are conducted the same way that Willard and Orr ran them, the on-court performance is as much on them as it is the head coach. I don't care what their stories have been thus far, we brought in former 4 star recruits from legitimate D1 programs - these kids are not void of skill or talent, but for the most part they sure played like it. Again, just my opinion, but I feel like we're being loyal to a MAAC level coaching staff at the expense of being a successful Big East program.

So to circle back to the top - we certainly can't "give up". But unlike the old days, having the wrong people in place has real financial consequences for not only the University, but for the fans too. We're the ones being begged to, sweet talked to, goaded into, and shamed into contributing our money into this. Whether we raise $700k or $7m this year, I have very real concerns that most of the people involved won't use it properly. And once it's used, it's gone. For a program that looks intent on making no changes and planning to just "do a better job this year", they have a LOT riding on their execution this next time around. Losing bets only get funded but for so long.

If you ask me, the problem is at the top. They’re so busy doing investigations of investigations regarding the scandals that they’ve taken their eye off the ball (assuming it was ever on the ball). Felt is not the issue. Because even if he left, I have no confidence they would fill his position with someone more capable.

If you hire a GM now you’ve either given up on next season or hired someone that you can blame for next seasons failure. It is entirely too late to bring someone in to manage a $5 million dollar budget with a few weeks to plan.

Better late than never and considering the GM is a new role, if he or she has some learning mistake or growing mistakes let them be with next years team not the following years team. Otherwise we're really staring at 5 or 6 years no tournament.

Sorry but coaches are in so much control of their program they can handle it. If Sha says I need an extra 250K for this player and the GM says no, who wins? The GM's are more into the making sure the flow of money is there on pay day. Who's getting paid when and contracts that make sure players aren't getting paid then bolting the next day into the portal. Sha needs to be in charge of the decisions regarding who is getting paid what amount. That's part of the the job. Just like we heard Will Wade on tapes arranging things, coaches are in charge here. GM's just take care of the smaller details and fine print.

Do we really have 5 million?! I find that number hard to believe

The number is irrelevant, but I believe whatever the number is it’s going to be significantly lower than needed to be considered middle of the pack. My point was hiring a GM this late is pointless. With 2000 players about to enter the portal in a few weeks someone should have been scouting and reaching out to agents weeks if not months ago. Hopefully a “friend of the program” has already been doing that.

We really don’t need to pay somebody high 6 figures to tell us who is a good player in the portal. It’s not tht complicated or difficult.

Multiple sites rank the portal players. You can always look back at high school rankings, Current college performance, call up coaching buddies, etc.

It’s not rocket science. If we’re relying on miracles from portal players way down the list then we really don’t have much hope. A magical GM isn’t changing that unless he brings in a ton of donations. Which wouldn’t really be his job.

Again…Pitino has a GM. That’s enough for me to know that Sha needs a GM.

I agree we should have been working the portal since November, watching other players, talking to their agents etc. getting a feel for $ and the market. I think we should have hired a GM over a year ago to dedicate to do that.

Anyways, I don’t know that hiring a GM now would be a bad move or make next year worse unless you say that the GM’s salary will be taken out of our NIL funds. If it does come from the funds, then, you are correct, don’t hire one.

GMs roles aren’t only to be the head honcho scout though, they also are the ppl that work the agents, have connections to agents, knows how to make the most of player investments and figure out fine details of player contracts.

Plus you can allow Sha to be the coach, and the GM worry about the money and for the agents and parents to harass. Separate the two would make is a million times easier to on Sha and staff to coach develop and fundraise!

What has Felt actually done or accomplished? Serious question, not trying to be an ass. I just haven’t seen anything. The practice facility was in the works under Lyons so that doesn’t count. Any time you ask about expanding our athletic offerings you get the canned answer that they want to concentrate on making our current teams championship caliber but how many banners have we hung? They aren’t doing anything to create consistent champions so no pressure to add additional teams. So what exactly has Felt done?

He hasn’t done much but what makes you think those in charge will replace him with someone better?

He hasn’t done anything so the bar is pretty low for the next person. All they have to do is one thing and they have done 100% more than Felt. Should we continue to do the same thing over and over and expect different results because that plan has worked for eternity so far? Felt is a starry eyed fan who likes hanging out in Athletics. We don’t need a starry eyed fan, we need an athletic director with a clue about high major, Division I athletics.

Seems from a previous post that McBride is gone. He was a guy who came in with big ideas and with SEC experience. He should have been able blow things out of the water, especially in comparison to what those at Seton Hall have done in the past. Now he’s gone with no notable accomplishments except for an extremely disappointing interview here and then we never heard from him again despite plans to hear from him on a regular basis. Who was his boss? Felt? Did Felt not allow McBride to do his job the way it should be done? Is Felt’s boss, Lyons, holding Felt back? Maybe they both need to go.

We also have a coaching vacancy for our Cross Country team, lead by a legendary coach who had his Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field programs cut less than 24 hours after they honored him the night before at a men’s basketball game. No mention of a national search (which for Seton Hall usually means looking around the room to see who’s available) for a replacement. What’s happening here? What is Felt doing about this? How is this fair to our current student athletes and what about recruiting? Is this the way Felt builds championship caliber teams?

McBride stole his salary for how many years before the inevitable axe and people here think a GM will be different??

No wonder DOGE exists

What don’t you get? I’m not defending Felt. Who makes these decisions?
