Very difficult to watch, especially with some of the graphic footage and recordings (much of it from the 9/11 museum). The Bush interview that followed was also very good and with all of the criticism he faced from his Presidency, we should be thankful he was in charge that day, because I doubt the three idiots that have succeeded him would have shown that kind of leadership and poise on that day and the days immediately following. The speech to the nation that evening and the ad hoc comments at Ground Zero.

Disagree. If another president had been in charge that day, we'd have been a lot better off. Bush was awful when it comes to terrorism/national security/foreign policy.

That's not what I said. It was the way he handled it that day and communicating to the country. We can certainly debate how he handled the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, but that week he showed great composure and communication skills.

I don't think flying across the country to two air force bases (and taking refuge in a bunker at one of them) while only making two brief, unspecific statements during the daytime was the model of presidential leadership. As Peter Jennings said that day, "where is the President of the United States?"

I think you are discounting what was going on. They had no idea until later in the day how many planes were in the air and where they were. We will have to agree to disagree.

That was, and still is, Secret Service protocol.

Peter Jennings was another disgraceful media shill, I thought you didn't take kindly to those kinds?

You quoted Peter Jennings? Lol

It was not protocol. They debated and made the decision after takeoff from Sarasota. To Bush's credit, it was reported that he did want to return to DC.

News media in the pre-social media age was not perfect, but it was more credible than any so-called "journalists" on TV these days.

It is and was protocol.

You should educate yourself on what happened that day and what was done with Air Force One.

Here is a start.

I don't appreciate you talking down to me. I know a ton about 9/11.

Read Garrett Graff's book if you really want to be educated instead of taking cheap shots at message board posters.

Nothing personal. I just don't appreciate your cheap shot at President Bush.

Do we have to argue about everything? It was the worst day in our lifetime. President Bush did a great job in trying circumstances and in my heart I believe his three successors would also have risen to the occasion.

Haven't read it, sounds good, this is the book for me though, just chilling:

No cheap shot. He did a poor job, just the facts. Utterly unprepared when he came into office and made the situation worse afterwards. The worst president of our lifetimes in my opinion.

Link is not displaying for me. Which book?

I will be reading Graff's book again over the next couple of weeks. It's a tremendously detailed recounting from virtually all of the key players in government and ordinary citizens who experienced the day.

Guy nobody is talking down to someone
People too serious

Continued watching the series the last few days. To go back and see the footage and what the Taliban did to this country only 20 years ago and now we have left them weaponry, negotiated with them, left Americans and Afgans trying to flee behind and now administration suggesting we will send them aid. Really disgusting what Biden is doing.

He also wrote another terrific book called Raven Rock. Good read if you're into Cold War history and continuity of government planning.

Am reading this now. Very, very good book but sometimes a tough emotional read.
