A blown chance

Red storm had their bad offensive game but so many small things add up...zuby not getting the ball the last 15 min a disaster
RJ Luis not in the game down the stretch. Kadary never got into the game. He sets everyone up for open shots and he never got it going. His last foul was a joke.

A very brief stay in this tournament by Quick Rick, who coached an uncharacteristically bad game. He’s got two no-names in the last five minutes with Luis glued to the bench, the conference player of the year. And not feeding Ejiofor in the post is malpractice. Also, Daivon Smith sucks. St. John’s was going to win until that kid who used to play here fouled out (on a total non-foul).

They had plenty of chances. Luis played bad. But the whole thing turned with Richmond fouling out with 7 minutes. The game was following the normal script and him not being able to control everything with Luis being a non-factor was too much.

That’s the NCAAT. SJU was 30–4. 4 losses by a total of 7 points. They just lost by 9 and came completely apart.

What an awful performance. my God. Missed layups, missed FT. 2/23 from 3. Even Scott an 83% shooter goes 0/2 late.

Did Calipari wear a tablecloth colored blazer on purpose? Cause if so……

They could have overcome kadary DQ and nearly did. However zuby had a double double but he should have had 30 and fouled out the 2nd big for arkansas. Also st johns gotta attack smartly in the paint area...not a jump shooting team...very shu vs gonzaga like today. Arkansas didn't shoot much better but fland or wagner were getting downhill and facing no resistance once beating perimeter defender off the bounce. Rj luis perhaps let his bad offense impact the rest of his court game. Was not impressive defensively or on the glass.

No, Luis was bad all around, but I’d rather lose with him on the court than those two guys who played 5 mpg this season.

The off the charts hype of st johns set them up for this disappointment.
The hype wasn’t off the charts. They lost 4 games by 7 points coming into the dance. They were the last two seed and Texas Tech had better odds to come out of that bracket than they did.

No one proclaimed they were a great time. It was always sum is better than the parts which is why Pitino got so many accolades, deservedly.

Their best player had an awful game, Richmond being in foul trouble the whole game and fouling out with 7 minutes left was the killer, and they couldn’t do what they did all year.

Another issue here was wilcher foul issues ineffective again very small things along the 40 min add up. Bunnies, front ends, check outs.

Wanted a good showing out of them for the Conference’s sake but no sympathy for them at all. Maybe Rick can blame Kadary’s lateral quickness for why he never got it going today.
Hard to get it going when you are in foul trouble and he also missed a number of layups he normally makes.

When you aren’t more talented than the opponent and win by playing harder and getting varied contributions, it’s hard to win when 2 of those guys are way off, one because he was just bad and the other with the foul trouble.

I thought the Johnnies lost traction when it was 62-60 and Luis forced his way to a terrible shot instead of looking for Zuby. If they could’ve tied it up there, it brings more life into the building and more confidence for the Johnnies with or without KR

Totally disagree non stop talk on every local media outlet.
The hall never saw that much hype .

Was an ugly game with all the fouls but the pace, the defense and the sheer number of great athletes made it a fun game. Teams combined to go 4 for 41 from 3!!! Two of the highest payrolls and most celebrated coaches. I felt Rick didn't coach a good game.

St Johns ran into a team that could match them from a talent POV and I feel they got gun-shy by Arkansas' shot blockers. But the biggest factor was Kadary didn't play well and eventually fouled out.

Couldn't be happier for smug Pitino et al. With all that money, Rick acting as commissioner, the energy-drink billionaire, Spike Lee ( Spike Lee.!..... gimme a break), and Kadary, and they win one more game than Bryant and SIU-Edwardsville.

And unless we learn Luis has COVID, can you imagine the ugliness if Kevin or Shaheen kept his BE player of the year on the bench in a two point game? Perhaps in the time off, Pitino can negotiate the BE-ACC merger.

Yes because we haven’t had a season like they have had since 92-93. And because we are Seton Hall and they are St Johns in NYC with Rick Pitino. Of course they are going to get enormous coverage locally and nationally when they won as many games as they did, won the league outright for the first time in forever, won the BET for the first time. All that exposure comes with the territory.

More talented team IMO. No one before the year had SJU as a 2 seed on paper. They were picked 5th in the league.

8 ncaa appearances since 2000 including a sweet 16 with our best player hurt

I know. I’ve watched all of them. If you are complaining that we don’t get exposure, I’m not sure what to tell you. I’ve been a fan for many decades. It is what it is, and it isn’t going to change absent something unusual, like us hiring Pitino, switching our home court to the Garden and having a season where we win a million games in the media capital of the world.

I definitely have mixed feelings. I'm not sad to see Pitino lose but the Big East needs money and every Win is vital. Need Creighton and UConn to win in this SEC/B10 Tournament.
I always want our teams to go as far as possible. Always been that way with the Big East. This year looks like it won’t happen but we have 2 shots left.

More important is we right our ship after 4 months of embarrassment.

I believe Luis hurt his foot in the first half.

Poor shooting team, it was bound to catch up with them. Brutal game from Pitino. To not adjust defensively was horrendous. Agree with Lappas and @SHUSource Luis needed to be out there late.

Happy they lost. Our biggest rival took our best player, there was no chance conference pride would allow me to root for St. Johns. Can’t wait to hear WFAN guys make excuses.

Those saying March wins will help the Big East long term - SHU missed the tourney the year after UConn won the natty AND we beat them. Unfortunately its inevitable where the powers that be want this to go (super conferences) and a few wins in March aren’t stopping that.

Phantom foul? Ref must have thought KR was still with us

It's pretty simple. They're NYC and we're not.

They are the only CBB team in the NY area team that the media cares about. We're Hofstra, Manhattan, Iona or Fordham compared to them.

Like it or not, that's reality.

We actually got more attention I feel this year than in past years when we were more successful. It was just the wrong attention this year.

From a BE standpoint really wanted SJ to win that game. All we have left are two 8 seeds trying to beat a one seed to get to the second weekend. Big comedown from last year and not much $$$ going into the BE coffers.

Blown chance but will have more chances to come.
Pitino reloading in the next month with 4 big time players to play with Zuby and Luis
The two mentioned above and 2 other studs that I think will send shockwaves through rest of the league if finalized
