People across these boards are saying that Seton Hall needs to step up, spend the money necessary and do what needs to be done to move the program forward. The fact of the matter is Seton Hall did step up and commit huge money to the basketball program. Unfortunately they spent a crazy amount of money on the wrong person, the wrong coach. Based on the salary statistics that I have reviewed, Willard is in the top ten percentile in terms of salary for Division One coaches. The real shame in this mess is that we continue to have inept people in positions where they are trusted with making these very important decisions. Absurdity is at its finest here.

Going big also has too mean going smart. This coach being this hard to buy out after five lousy years, given the experience he brought with him, reflects very, very poorly on whoever structured that contract for Seton Hall.

What else is new. We hope the admin bails us out of the situation they got us into...

What half-decent coach would want to come to Seton Hall for less than what Willard is getting? You're dreaming if you think we can get a Hurley/Griffin or a top tier coach. Even paying $1.3+ million is not enough incentive to attract a good coach. We're a piling heap of garbage right now (and have been since we let Orr go).

I completely disagree that we could not attract a good coach. This loser mentality has to stop. First of all $1.3M puts you in the top 20% or so of what basketball coaches are getting paid. Not the top tier but pretty damn good. As an example, per the article attached Greg McDermot is in the $900k range. We could attract plenty of good coaches from the A-10 or similar conferences for that money.

Second of all people keep saying our program is so tough and its a coach killer. I disagree again. Let's look at the history.

PJ left and had a very successful career.
Blaney got fired and landed on his feet as an assistant and made lots of money with Calhoun.
Amaker left and got the Michigan job and is doing very well at Harvard now. We were a great stepping stone for him.
Orr came and got fired (mistake probably) and landed at Bowling Green (maybe not all that sexy of a job but still a HC gig).
Gonzo imploded so you can't really count him. But even if you did at least 3 of the last 5 coaches did just fine after they left SHU.

Willard will land on his feet too. He is young and knows the game. So this talk about we are a terrible job is simply wrong. We are in a great recruiting area, we pay well and our past coaches have not done all that bad. And now we are in a great conference with terrific teams and a nice TV contract and supposedly a much better Pres and AD than we've had since Petillo and Reagan. We can do so much better.

And Cooley is getting it done at a school in Providence with a history similar to SHU.

112, I think you have a good position here. It's pretty bleak, but we do have advantages, SHOULD THEY BE SEIZED. With you my good buddy.
