I would've loved to see him stay and develop. I think he could have eventually been a pretty good lead guard for us. I do think that he was unlikely to see meaningful minutes next year. I'm not happy about he's leaving, but I understand it. I think he'll be a very good pick up for whoever ends up with him. They have recruited over him including 24 year old Malachi Smith (25 years next year) . Hurley wants experience over growth. We'll see how his other recruits fare this year. The sit and wait your chance doesn't play into today's "gimme it now" world. Wonder what old friend @CL82 says about this. I ventured over to the UCONN Boneyard and the consensus from the arrogant crew inhabiting the Yard is "no biggie."
Not necessarily with Seton Hall, but this possibility has occurred to me. He's going to be a nice piece eventually.SH sign him up, get him experience and then let DH have him. 😖
Not to be the Uconn “desk sergeant” or head of “internal affairs”, but I think this probably is no big deal from their perspective. When you bring in Demary and Smith, combined with Ball and Ross returning, it shouldn’t be a surprise that other talented younger players move on. Add a highly ranked incoming class to the equation and there are only so many minutes to go around the back court and wings. So when a Newell or Adams moves on, I don’t think objectively speaking it’s either an indictment of or a problem for UConn. It’s just a sign of the times. If Newell, Adams or the wing who left for Georgetown do well next year, they are in line for a major payday with options to spare. I’m sure UConn wanted to keep most of those kids for continuity and development purposes, but that’s becoming increasingly harder to do. Still though it’s not a bad problem to have because it means you are retaining or acquiring other talent that those kids and their advisors view as a threat to play over the departing. They have recruited over him including 24 year old Malachi Smith (25 years next year) .
