i prefer more active sports. at least while I'm still able to do them.
At West Point, cadets are required to learn at least one lifetime sport such as Tennis or Golf.
I've been golfing 45 years. I believe it to be one of the best if not the best game ever invented.
I dislike the drinking golfers. I am talking about the hacks who go out with a cart full of beer and booze. They give the game a bad name. Same with fishing. I've always said to my buddies, if you want drink, we can go to a bar. "We are here to fish", or "we are here to play golf".
I walk with a pull cart about half the time. That is a 5 mile walk and more. If you play the game with any commitment you know that it requires flexibility, balance, extreme concentration, hand eye coordination, memory, and thinking. If you want to be decent, you need to stay in shape and stay flexible.
Played correctly, it is also a game of integrity wherein you are also your own referee.
It is also a social game and great time for pleasant conversation, ribbing, and overall camaraderie.
I play about half the time with the guys and the other half with my wife.
It is not the only game or sport. I have played and done many activities when I was younger. Running, B-Ball, road biking, swimming, tennis, racquets, skiing. All are good for various reasons. I still workout with some aerobic, light weights, and swimming.
Bottom line is that you have to keep moving and keep your mind active.
