Amazon - LIC bye-bye

Social security was not designed to be a permanent program. It was born out of the Great Depression as a relief program for retirees at the time.

That’s how it was sold to the public but that’s not how it was structured. It was structured to raise funds to be spent at will by the federal government under the guise of helping seniors. Due to that structure, it’s an entitlement. While one pays in, there is no account for that person.

I’m for capitalism always. It offers the most freedom for all individuals. A bold president will hopefully get rid of half the FDR, Johnson, and Obama social programs. Start there.

I’m for capitalism, freedom, and liberty; just not for corporate welfare or crony capitalism.

I don't know enough of the history of SS but the structure has to be an entitlement. When they started it, the first recipients couldnt possibly have paid in their benefit.

I'm for capitalism, freedom and liberty as well. I just differ about the role of the federal government in instances when capitalism isnt working well enough to provide freedom and liberty.

When it was started, there were 159 workers per beneficiary. They could have done both: paid current recipients and set up personal accounts for future beneficiaries. The designers were either stupid, this wasn’t really about providing for seniors but rather a way to get more funds to spend on other projects, or both.
