Ambassador Susan Rice U.S. National Security Advisor

OK, BayonneRay. I won't comment anymore.

You do know that you do not have to read every thread? No one's forcing you. I don't read the multiple "fire Willard" threads. I ignore them.

I thought it was a vigorous yet relatively civilized discussion. What's wrong with that?

Don't worry. You don't have to send a note to one of the moderators to complain.

400SOAVE- Thank you very much and may the basketball gods smile upon you and yours.

A school of diplomacy should be thrilled to welcome a diplomat of Susan Rice's standing.

My feelings about her personally is that she's a tool, and a borderline incompetent for her position. But that's not the point. The fact that people are questioning whether her appearance at SHU is appropriate when nobody would even raise that question if one of her underlings were coming instead of her is really at the heart of the matter here.

Any school of diplomacy would be fortunate to have a former UN ambassador and sitting national security advisor speak to its students. She might even say something dopey about the Iran negotiations, launching SHU into the national spotlight and history in the process. For SHU and its students, there really isn't anything bad that can come from it.

Bedrock Republican here. I think they invited the wrong Rice. But please let's afford her the courtesy that Condi would never be afforded at many left leaning schools

Why is it a "disgrace" or an "embarrassment" for the School of Diplomacy to invite a SITTING US National Security Advisor to speak? Should our students not aspire to be one of the nation's top advisors to the President?

Some people just like to complain about anything and everything, I guess.

I believe that the current administration is an utter disaster on many levels but especially on foreign policy and more particularly on its treatment of Israel. That said, SR does represent this administration at a very senior level and thus our students will benefit from hearing her views if only to confirm how misguided that they are. We should not be like the leftists and silence people with whom we disagree. US higher education as a whole does not allow freedom of expression if a speaker is not a leftist, socialist, anti-America, anti- Israel, etc. All reasonable views should be voiced on campus.

When I was working at Rider, we had that old lefty pinko commie liberal, Gov. Mike Huckabee, there to speak. Also, former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. I wish they would let some conservatives speak on our campuses of higher education...
