Another (4th) 2016 WBB Recruit

We got some options with Bigs for the final 2016 scholarship. I would have preferred 2 bigs with 5 ships to give and TRS & Tiff Jones leaving. But Tony knows best!

Sounds like a really good player and big time scorer. With 4 guards and no bigs in the 2015 class and 4 guards in the 2016 class Tony has to add a big in this class .

I know they have not released the 2015-2016 roster, but don't forget there are two in-coming freshman forwards- the 6-1 Taylor Byrne from Long Island Lutheran, and 5-10 Martha Kuderer from Minnesota.

The 6-2 Jordan Molyneaux is a redshirt freshman this season.

So the "freshman" class has some size.

Clair Lundberg, a 6-1 sophomore, didn't get much playing time last season. She could emerge.

All these players are good.

Nevertheless, I think everybody agrees they need a real big for 2016.

400, with Skyler Snider we have 14 2016-2017 athletic scholarships committed. This still enables a fifteenth. The Trove discussion covers exactly how we get there. If still a question, let me know.

Good info, BluePirate. Thanks.

We know they're going after Jayla Jones-Pack, 6-3 from St. Anthony HS in South Huntington, NY. (That's on Long Island.)

They are also recruiting Blessing Ejiofor, 6-4, from Paterson Eastside.

Getting one would be great. Let's say they can get both. Why not? Can the roster be maneuvered to open up room for both?

I know I've seen team rosters with more players than there are scholarships. I know some sports combine athletic scholarships with academic scholarships. Some teams use redshirting as a way to stock players.

What are the possibilities?

400, it would take "maneuvering" to make it happen. So far, Tony has shown that he can fill up the roster to full or one over, without any of the Alabama-style treatment of the roster (thank goodness). My take is that they will hope to get a verbal from Jones-Pack and that will close 2016, failing that, try to get a verbal from Ejiofor to close 2016. The amazing thing is that they're already working 2017.

That's what the really good programs do. They lock up their recruiting pretty much for the current class by Labor Day which gives them the ability to concentrate on recruiting the underclassmen one , two or three years out and avoid scrambling to find players for the spring signing period and Tony and his staff have that going for them.

Well, just getting one would complete a very strong 2016 class. I'm getting too excited and thinking about maneuvers.

They have several excellent players already on the team. They need to get minutes.

Looks like Tony's practices are going to become super competitive (maybe even more so that some games) this year and in the future.

That's what all programs should strive for. And it looks like WBB is getting there!

Just a note of caution. The other BE women's BB programs are not standing still and are recruiting very well. For example in the 2015 class Butler has added a top 75 player; Marquette three top 150 players,#89,#93 and #149 and Nova a top 60 G. PC has added a top 25 PG and a 6'3" C. ranked 141 ; SJU has added a top 75 F while DePaul has added a top 25 F. BE women basketball is going to become more competitive from top to bottom and Tony's ability to recruit will help keep us a top tier team.

I say bring it! You always want to compete against the best of the best, not the best of the rest. Tony will get the job done and keep our ladies on top!

Good news for the conference as last year it was a low mid-major.

SPK, I usually agree with you, but I disagree we were a "low" mid-major. We were actually a very high mid-major, surprising even to me. Rankings are fo-shizzle, but in the aggregate, they do mean something. The Bennett ranking of WBB D1 conferences places us at the high end, still not high-major. Aside from the five major conferences, we cluster with the West Coast Conference, and then there is a big drop-off to all the rest.

Next time we sit together at a ball game munching on a hot dog, we can debate the merits.

As we know, Jayla Jones-Pack is down to six schools. She called UNC, her "dream school."

So if your dream school offers, why not immediately accept?

Perhaps she wants her family to be able to attend her games. She speaks highly of the Seton Hall coaches, which does not surprise me. "I have a great relationship with the coaching staff," she said. "My family can come to a lot of my games, which means a lot to me because that's who I play for."

Let's go Jayla! South Orange and the Pirates await to dance with you every March.

Go Pirates!

It seems that many kids ,both men and women , leave the metro area for southern schools and eventually transfer back home. Lots of different reasons but most of them involve being close to family .

Our program is going to be a perennial top 25. The school is soaring academically and it's 30 minutes to Manhattan. And then there's Tony and the ethos he has developed.

Unless you are looking for a State school environment, Seton Hall is a great choice for young women who want to play high level basketball.

Would be a very good get for SH and would fill a priority need . It would also make a statement that Tony can get the highly sought after player and beat out the power 5 conferences for that player. Beating out UNC and RU will be difficult but I still think we have a legitimate shot.

Might want to stay home and play in front of friends and family. If that is the case SHU and Rutgers will battle it out for her.

Maybe we need to have her speak with the two Pirates who transferred out of New Brunswick!

Can't believe I'm doing this but Dr Bill and I are getting two season tickets for the women's team this year. Don't know how many we will attend but throwing in our support. We still have 3 tix for men's season tix.

I've been trying to contact the Ticket Office all morning, I left a message at 9:15am regarding purchasing Women's Season Tickets and renewing our Men's tickets... I have not heard back since.

The answering machine message for the Ticket Office mentions nothing about being closed today either.
