Damontre Moore, the Giants 3rd round pick in the 2013 draft was waived today for the usual " violation of team rules." Of course with the Giants that means he was only 3 minutes early for a meeting not the required 5 minutes. Now who signs him first, Jerry Jones in Dallas or Rex Ryan in Buffalo and while I said that in jest ,he'll be picked up within 48 hours as he is talented and if he ever gets his behavior under control could be a hell of a player.

Just read this to understand the level of MORON we're dealing with here:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14344975/new-york-giants-waive-damontre-moore

Choice excerpt:

"Coaches and administrators have spoken to Moore on several occasions, this year and in years past, about his behavior in practice. Sources say Moore routinely clowned around on the practice field in front of everyone from teammates to Giants owner John Mara and responded poorly to efforts by teammates and coaches to get him to take practice more seriously. Moore was also penalized several times this year during games for roughing the passer, and his lack of on-field discipline earned him a full-game benching in a Week 7 over the Dallas Cowboys.

Sources also said Moore feuded openly with some team officials, including general manager Jerry Reese, when confronted about his behavior. Reese is fiercely loyal to his draft picks, so for him to cut a former third-rounder during the third year of his rookie deal would likely require extreme circumstances."

As for that "violation of team rules":

All this from a player who, to be blunt, sucks. Earlier this year I said Moore had the I.Q. of a turnip. I apologize. That was grossly unfair to turnips. Another winner picked out by the WONDERFUL Jerry Reese.

The Giants have always held themselves out as a team where they stay away from drafting or signing players who have a history of behavior issues and are known as a team that really does its homework on these issues. Hard for me to accept that there weren't issues with Moore in college.

Jerry Reece thought he was Dr. Phil after he rolled the dice with Ahmad Bradshaw a few years back. Bradshaw was tagged a problem in college after transferring from Virginia. It was a great pick, turns out . Bradshaw was instrumental in clinching the East with that 80 yard in the rain vs Buffalo that sealed the win. Amazing player after that, too, heart and soul of the Giants. If Moore never gave you anything, what are you losing by cutting him?

Too many third rounders from Reece that don't pan out. The championship team with Strahan had a number of key contributors he drafted that stuck around that year. His draft record since has been pretty dismal. I often wondered if Coughlin was doing him a favor by keeping his draft picks around for a few years to see if they panned out. (Or was the competition that bad?) In most cases, they haven't done much. Reece obviously knows the party line and how to respond to the press. He never says anything of substance, just like the Maras. Reece and the Maras, perfect together. He'll probably be around for some time.

There are kids who get in trouble in college, but are also tough minded and develop into leaders of sort and that's what Ahmad Bradshaw was.

The problem the likes of Damontre Moore and Rueben Randle is they just don't "get" it. Not with the program. Cannot figure it out.

During John Mara's season-ending press conference after the 2013 disaster he specifically mentioned the poor drafts and the amount of risks taken in the previous years. The poor drafts were a reason the team imploded that season due to an alarming lack of depth and player development, ultimately leading to that fury of FA signings that offseason. That's when they had that 2014 draft built around team leaders on their respective college teams.

They've had a rough, rough go of it with their top 3 selections.

2010
1 Jason Pierre-Paul DE South Florida
2 Linval Joseph DT East Carolina
4 Phillip Dillard LB Nebraska

2011
1 Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
2 Marvin Austin DT North Carolina
3 Jerrel Jernigan WR Troy

2012
1 David Wilson RB Virginia Tech
2 Rueben Randle WR LSU
3 Jayron Hosley CB Virginia Tech

2013
1 Justin Pugh OT Syracuse
2 Johnathan Hankins DT Ohio State
3 Damontre Moore DE Texas A&M

2014
1 Odell Beckham, Jr. WR LSU
2 Weston Richburg C Colorado State
3 Jay Bromley DT Syracuse

2015
1 Ereck Flowers OT Miami
2 Landon Collins S Alabama
3 Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE UCLA

Look at the 2013 draft class Moore was in. Good first and second round picks in Pugh and Hankins. Moore in the 3rd round is gone and Nassib in the fourth round was generally considered a much lower round talent and widely criticized for wasting a premium pick on a backup to Eli who never misses a game and could have been used to address other needs. Cooper at 5 is still on the roster but has been injured a lot. The other two picks Herman a guard and Cox a RB are gone. That means you're getting production from two of your seven picks and nothing from your third and fourth round picks, premium rounds.

hallgrad80, the 2012 draft may've been the organization's worst ever.

2012
1 David Wilson RB Virginia Tech
2 Rueben Randle WR LSU
3 Jayron Hosley CB Virginia Tech
4 Adrien Robinson TE Cincinnati
5 Brandon Mosley OT Auburn
6 Matt McCants OT UAB
7 Markus Kuhn DT NC State

The above statement could not be further from reality. The Giants have signed Chrisitan Peter, a known alcoholic and domestic violence offender at Nebraska, Plaxico Buress a FA signed with domestic violence reports involving him and just convicted of tax evasion while he was a Giant player. Tito Wooten starting safety with domestic violence incidents and even Keith Hamiltion had marijuana and DUI charges where Fassel was the one who psoted bail for him just to name a few. We already mentioned Wil Hill here.

The Giants organization think they can coach up and or fix any player. Sometimes they can most times they cannot.
Moo re must have 4 or blocked punts in his career and his physcial ability they thought they could coach up just like the JPP of tight ends wh they drafted.

Every pro team and every one of their scouts all have the same data to look at when they're evaluating the talent of a player they're looking to draft or a free agent to sign. The difference between teams comes down to what value they place on each part of the evaluation process in building their draft board or what free agents they may be targeting. When you have repeated failures at building your roster you have to question the process used by which you arrive at your draft board and that falls clearly on the shoulders of Reese and Marc Ross to adapt and make changes when the way you're doing it isn't producing results.

I agree. The classic dilemma of "best available vs. best need" isn't even a question if the valuation process is this far off. I mean, Marvin Austin the 2nd round? Randle in the 2nd when Nicks/Cruz/Manningham were already here and in their prime after a Super Bowl win? I can see the raw talent of Moore, but nobody had a read on him not being able to learn and be mature?

Every draft can be nitpicked from every team in the league. But there's no doubt the Giants have struggled over a sample of many years after doing very well in previous years which built the 2005-12 teams that made that great run of winning seasons, playoffs, and championships. But they couldn't replenish that core because of the poor drafts mentioned.

You didn't read carefully what I said . I said that hold themselves out as a team who stays away from signing or drafting players with a history not that they did that with each player. You also left out Will Hill in your narrative.

I think Pugh's a good player at guard. He's been jerked around the line too much because of the other issues.

While I am not defending Moore, the headphone story tells us all we need to know about the state of the Giants. Moore was angry because Jenkins grabbed several pairs of Beats while he didn't get any. Talk about teamwork.

Well, OBJ brining in headphones for everyone reflects well for teamwork, no? Sounds like there were lots of issues with Moore behind closed doors.

Burnsly is the only poster being objective in this entire thread. Piratz, Prince is their starting CB who they think is their shut down CB. Lynval Joseph was a starter for years and is now one on a playoff contention team in Minnesota. Marvin Austin was very highly rated, but he missed a year because of the UNC scandal and then tore his pectoral. Then they took Hankins in the 2nd round. Nassib was highly rated and if Doug Marrone had taken him instead of E J Mannuel he might still have a HC job. If Eli had gotten hurt like Tony Romo maybe their is a back up QB who can play unlike many other teams. And Reese even said after the pick I hope he never plays. This goes to my point about the Giants draft process,. Best player available highest rated on their board. Reese has stuck to that and if you want to blow up the entire process that is fine with me. And frankly I wish they would stop drafting these Syracuse and BC players that Coughlin I bet is on board with. Pugh is not any good. He never played G in college, can't play tackle in the NFL and isn't any good at G now. FWIW, they gave Snee every chance to come back when they cut Suebert and OHara immediatley and went after Baas. We all know why they gave Snee the opportunity and I am OK with that, but the fact is he should have done exactly what Michael Cuydder of the Mets is doing for them now.

Yes, I'd like to blow up that entire process because that's only functional when that particular player who doesn't fit a need is an OBJ type, And I doubt Coughlin is holding Reese back too, LOL.

The likelihood is they'll change coaches, but we'll still be sitting here next year wondering why the team is mediocre or worse again until they improve these drafts. They are not good enough. Reese had a pretty good run from 2007-10 to build off what they did when Accorsi was making the final calls (Eli, Diehl, Tuck, Osi, Snee, Kiwanuka, Jacobs, Webster, etc. were all Accorsi Era), but since they've been terrible.

Not good enough to manage the game with 75 seconds left and be 10-2. That about sums it up. And where and who are all these all pro drafts from Pittsburg, Minnesota and KC? Funny when the team was 9-7 medicore lots of times it was just be in it to win it. Now when they should already be in it, they aren't close to good enough to be in it according to you.

Stolen from another message board today...

With such a spectacular crash and burn with a pick, it can be educational to see what the team thought when they drafted him. The team knew what they were getting but it seems the entire organization overestimated their ability to deal with him: From when the Giants drafted Moore.

Tom Coughlin:

The other kid, Damontre Moore, has great production – 12 ½ sacks – 26 ½ over his career, 21 TFL’s; a very, very good effort player on Saturday. He has some issues, I think, during the week, which we will have to address in terms of preparation and practice mentality, that type of thing. But he is young, just 20 years old.

Jerry Reese:

Q: Is his history with marijuana a concern at all?

A: Well, we’re always concerned if that’s an issue with players. We do extensive background information, get extensive background information. I think that it’s a situation where we can handle that. His off-field issues, which I don’t think are significant, I think that we can handle. If he has any issues, I think that we can handle it.

Q: Does the youth of Damontre Moore make him a project?

A: It makes him a kid that has a lot to learn. He’s got a tremendous upside. He plays three years, he’s a junior, so he can come in here with (Defensive Line Coach) Robert Nunn, who does a tremendous job with our defensive line. He’ll learn a lot right way. He’s one of those kids that can play on your special teams. He’s got a pretty unique skill set.

Marc Ross

things off the field that people may not have been comfortable with where he just needs to grow up. He’s only 20. He needs to be a professional a little bit. He’s a good kid who loves to play. Those may have been a couple of reasons.

Q: Coach Coughlin mentioned his work ethic, specifically during practice. What did you gather on that topic?

A: Well, he just needs to learn how to be a professional to know what it takes day-in-and-day-out – what it takes to prepare. When you’re a star in college, sometimes you try to get away with a little bit more. He has to learn to do that. We feel we have a support network with, number one, Coach Coughlin, his position coach and our player development staff that will help him out

Q: Did you get a chance to ask Damontre about his workout numbers at the Combine?

A: Yes, (defensive line coach) Robert Nunn was down at his workout, his Pro Day. Our area scout Donnie Etheridge was there. We’ve been in communication with him. Charles Way has talked to him a lot, so we’ve invested a lot of time into him. We’ve talked a lot to him, we like him as a person and we’re comfortable with bringing him here.

This move is very telling when you think how desperate this team is for pass rushers in the midst of a playoff race. Our pass rush in the worst in the league and Moore can get to the QB (espeically after the play is over - lol).

Moore must have been so impossible to handle that they dumped him with no replacement in sight. Very few of the risks Reese has taken have panned out unfortunately. Should be another nail in his cofffin IMO.

Randle's going to be another high-round recent pick (R2, 2012) to be next if he doesn't get his act together. Another one with raw talent but completely lost as a professional. At the very least won't get a contract.

I agree it's been mismanaged at times. I don't know why you go on 4th and 2 late but not on 4th and 1 from the 1 earlier.

But it's not just on the coach. He's not the only reason they are 5-7.

Each of those mismanaged games also included terrible individual perfeomanes by players.

Why can't someone make a play in the final 2?!?!? Must every offense go down the field at will late? Can someone not get beat one on one? Catch an INT? Be in position to contend a pass?

Can someone throw a block in short yardage? Make a clean route or good throw?

Randle is an UFA in 2016 and just like Nicks from a few years ago will not be back I can't imagine.

Reese is not the only one. The entire Giants organization has always held themselves out as believing in 2nd chances for individuals players even after serious incidents. Ascorsi signed Peter and Buress. No matter who the coach is they beleive they can manage the situation and the player. Bradshaw is another example he had trouble at UVA and then Marshall.

Trouble with booze, authority or can't stop fumbling the football? Don't worry the Giants think they can fix you until they can't it's not about keeping you around.
