Another Log On The Fire

We could easily be 9-4 and things wouldn't seem as dire
If not for a missed field goal, the Buffalo Bills would own a Lombardi Trophy. Unfortunately, no one in sports cares about a few balls and how they could have easily bounced a different way. Results are what they are, and it's damaging the program.

Gus is pesky because he plays with intensity with that wide frame and in spots it makes a difference. He also positioned well when Georgetown went to the zone. Gus was in the middle of the comeback runs against both Oklahoma State and Georgetown. Not a coincidence. Godswill also played pretty well against Georgetown.

Encouraging for both of them considering it was against Sorber.
I think both Godswill and Gus have been OK at times, but I think the bar is set so low and frankly our board (like most) is over-reactionary when judging players, especially in a year like this (plus we with PGs we forever are). Gus in particular people like because he has enthusiasm even if the the pink sneakers, constant hand waving and acting like the Center from the movie Teen Wolf gets old to many of us real fast.

I think we would all do ourselves a favor in balancing optimism with realism when evaluating players. Jenkins was characterized as our “next star” after a few solid games against mid majors. Even Coleman who has played well is being blown up. When you are out of games quickly and the leads balloon to 20 points, it absolutely changes what the stat lines look like.

I'd say its 50 percent the NIL and 50 percent coaching.

A) without question the NIL is a humungous factor this season. "Probably" lost Richmond because of it, although
I believe there were external factors in addition to that. Lost Davis too, but he still may have wanted to move his family to a different region of the country. Hard to say what resigning Wusu, plus adding Aligbe and Toumi cost? Maybe they should have used those funds to get one solid starter?? In addition, there has to be something in between marquee $800,000 a year player and this core group of transfers in. Sha deserves blame for signing off on some of these players, but his front-line scouts on the staff let him down. Just poor grades all the way around. We now have urgency as a community along with the University Athletic Dept to get this right until possible legislation comes along. Urgency equals Next Season.

B) We have to remember that St. Peter's surprised teams that season. Sha's coaching style had not been in the limelight up until that point. There are no more surprises and there are ways to offset some of his strategies. With talent like most coaches, he can and will succeed. The 13-7 record last season in conference and the NIT crown was evidence of that. Obviously, way more talent last season. Both last season and this season the team's OOC performance was poor, and he deserves a hit for that. The NIL is not really an excuse for losing to Fordham, Hofstra and Monmouth. The insane lineup changes and over subbing have been problematic. His loyalty to two or three guys despite below average play is squarely on him. Guys are always banged up or hurt? Maybe he is too consumed with Practice and that plays into some of these injuries. I would say that better coaching may not have led to Wins, BUT there is no reason for that jumbled bunch of nonsense we witnessed during the Xavier game.

Same old, same old. The Hall is 355th of 364 nationally in 2PT shooting % and only 332nd in 3PA:FGA, so we're living trying to get to the rim. Sha has always coached offense like this but its stunning how bad we are this year. I never expected us to be amongst the worst in the country, good Lord.

And we're only 211th in 2PT% defense this year through 14 games, below average.
Isn’t one of the issues that has dominated this Board the question of who is overseeing what’s taking place on the court , what’s the status of our recruiting and perhaps most importantly what’s our strategy for getting back on track. When a program is performing as bad as ours is wouldn’t it be nice if we hear from our AD and have him speak to the issues.

Beyond the ineptitude of this years team, it's all about engagement, engagement, engagement. They don't understand that. They clearly don't think they need it. I mean look at the effort put into their social media, it's a joke.

They should do more between games, have a coach's show, have pressers like every other top program does.

Right now Seton Hall appears to have adopted a “ Bunker Mentality “ with the philosophy that the current spate of criticism will eventually fall by the wayside with the result that little will change . Piratz I hope that your raising the “ engagement issue is addressed .

We'll never know the philosophy behind how we spent what NIL we did have or how we came to this group of players. There are no leaks with this regime because there's no discussion.

I hope there's someone on the inside asking these questions that lead to improvement.

I’m concerned we’ll have to overpay anyone who has a game to get them to come to this dumpster fire . There are plenty of choices for the kind of players we are desperate for..
