Any Chance We’re Ranked Come Monday?

Love to be ranked but the Rutgers and Iowa losses are going to hold us back. And as so many other have said, just focus on winning the next two. To run the win total up to be in position to get a bid, these are the games we need to have.

I’m hoping Georgetown and Butler get ranked. Seems to motivate our guys. Lol
De Paul is No. 1 in the poll of worst P6 team according to the NET. They're at 286 overall.

Georgetown is No. 4 at 211 overall behind Louisville (263) and Vanderbilt (245).

Does that count?

Butler is No. 63 in the NET so they are ahead of us.

I only agree on the RU loss. With 3 Quad 1 wins, the other games don't hurt us.
We still lost them though. The overall composite record is what matters. It isn't like those OOC games don't count. If we had wiped the floor with opponents and started 1-3 in the league, folks would be touting those early seasons wins when undertaking an analysis of this kind.

What should count more three wins against top 25 teams or 3 loses on road to Baylor, USC. and Iowa?

It’s not a matter of what counts or what doesn’t….first of all they do, and second it’s a measure of how you stand against 361 other teams. They have a lot of ground to make up against the field.

Rankings don't mean anything until Selection Sunday. It's nice to be ranked, but Sha and our team perform better when they're hungry.

What's interesting to me about the rankings are how teams with similar Quad records could be separated quite a bit in the rankings. Example:

Team
Villanova - Quad 1: 4-0 Quad 2: 1-3 Quad 3: 1-2 Quad 4: 4-0 Rank: 32
Seton Hall - Quad 1: 3-2 Quad 2: 0-2 Quad 3: 1-1 Quad 4: 6-0 Rank: 73

SHU is 0-2 in Quad 2, but has fewer Quad 2 and Quad 3 losses (3 losses to Villanova's 5). Additionally, SHU has played more Quad 1 games.

Four teams will likely fall out of the rankings this week, FAU, JMU, Providence and Ole Miss. I still prefer that we remain outside looking in.

GO PIRATES!!!

Ironic this morning SHU is in first place in the BE; RU in last place in the B10.

Would anyone want to trade the three ranked wins for a win against RU?

Great point! I hate losing to RU, but I'd welcome a loss every season in exchange for a chance to make the Dance.

There’s a logical explanation for that.… not all quad wins are the same. For example, beating No. 5 on the road is not the same as beating No. 75 on the road. Categorically it’s the same, but metrically, it’s not even close.

Baylor was a Quad 1 loss, USC and Iowa were Quad 2 losses. We're 3-4 in Quad 1 and 2 games, certainly NCAA Tourney caliber. It's the RU loss that's weighing on us.
Nothing good ever comes from playing Rutgers. Win and you should, lose and you put your postseason in grave jeopardy.

Should beat Gtown but don't sleep on any BE team. Butler and St John's won't be easy. Let's get to 12-5 going into St john's.

We just need to take care of business this week. We can beat anyone in the conference but if we get too full of ourselves we can lose to anyone. Stay hungry.
Sha is the quintessential glass half empty guy. We traveled to Wichita NCAAs, and spoke to Desi and Khadeen at some length. Both said Willard was easy compared to Sha - no matter how well you played he wanted better.

Sha is not celebrating this now, and will continue to do what has gotten him to the Elite 8: be himself, which is a grind it out hard worker, terrific coach and straight shooter.

Think that John’s has a better chance to get ranked than SHU… SHU will be on the outside of the top 25. They will get some votes but they won’t get in.

82% of big east road games are quad 1? That's crazy!

SHU is on a very nice roll, but I’m still not convinced they are the best team in New Jersey. And I‘m not thinking about Rutgers.

Can't argue IMO with the rankings. Although I have issues with the Princeton and Seton Hall numbers of 50 and 67.

Both too low.

Kenpom

50 Princeton Ivy 13-1 +14.06
67 Seton Hall BE 10-5 +11.61
89 Rutgers B10 8-6 +8.53
Princeton is 27 in the NET. 11-1 overall (not including non D-I wins). They are 6-1 on the road and 1-0 neutral.

They are 0-1 in Q1 (St. Joe's) and 4-0/3-0/4-0 across Q2/3/4.

EDIT: these are the results of the coaches poll. AP poll results posted below.

Well, we got 11 votes. Other BE teams receiving votes: St. John's 8, Providence 7, Villanova 1.

UConn, Marquette, and Creighton check in at 4th, 12th, and 20th, respectively.

Xaivian Lee is a wagon. They will be a top 25 team in his upperclass years if he sticks around.

Win both games this week and we’ll be a lock for next week
Maybe but I wouldn't count on it. The floor for entry dropped this week which is helpful (20 points in the AP and 16 on the coaches side) though that could easily climb next week.

I don't see wins over Georgetown and Butler -- even road wins -- moving the needle much on voters. There are a number of teams ahead us, our metrics (something most, if not all, voters look at) are not great and our overall record isn't great. As it is, we are currently the highest ranked five-loss team in the polls.

We are 34th and 38th in the two polls. That means jumping nine and 13 teams to get ranked. What happens in the unlikely event that all of them go 2-0 this week? We don't play games in a vacuum, other teams are playing and achieving things as well. There are some damn good teams ahead of us that have played well all season.

It's much easier to stay in the polls than it is to climb into the polls. With one and two games a week, this is a multi-week process and even wins is not a guarantee that a team's rise is linear.

I'm sorry to inject a dose of reality into the proceedings. I've been watching these things for too long to believe we're going to snap our fingers and be ranked.

Yeah, beating Georgetown and Butler is not going to put Seton Hall into the top 25. It will move them closer, but not enough to get in barring EVERYONE in the bottom half of the poll losing.
