As I see it Mar 24

Marquette has little size, rebounds poorly, Gold, their 7 footer, prefers to float around shooting 3s, they’re streaky from 3, and they’re not going to turn good teams over 15 times a game. Hope they get to the 2nd weekend but it’s going to be tough. Kam really needs to be Superman.

Same as last week but almost made one change

Week 18

1. SJU 30-4 18-2
Is there any doubt

2. Creighton 24-10 15-5
Beat UConn against their homecourt crowd

3. UConn 23-10 14-6
No longer the best coach in the F@#$%&# country

4. Marquette 23-10 13-7
Good team but something has been missing all year

5. Xavier 21-11 13-7
Hey NCAA, don't screw the conference again

6. Nova 19-14 11-9
Neptune's no longer a planet.

7. Georgetown 17-15 8-12
12-2 in early January

8. Butler 14-19 6-14
Now a solid 8th

9. Providence 12-20 6-14
Barely, and I mean barely over DePaul

10. DePaul 14-19 4-16
Early schedule was an absolute joke so don't get fooled by the record compared to Providence. That said by season's end they were the better team. But not overall

11. Seton Hall 7-25 2-18
Beyond embarrassing and Sha knows it
My final based on the season:

1. SJU (historic, unprecedented season that no one saw coming. Pitino could retire tomorrow and it would have been worth it).

2. Creighton (McDermott did his usually excellent job losing Isaacs early)

3. UConn (CL82 will correct me, but I have a feeling Uconn fans think if Taris Reed had 80% of Zuby Ejefor's "motor", he'd be the best big man in the country and Uconn would be 1 on this list, despite the Manahney-miss and Diarra injury) (still think Uconn is very, very dangerous in the tournament and can see them going on a run)

4. Marquette (success in the tourney will be matchup-dependent more than the other teams, IMO, because of the front court issues but how their wings/backcourt can cause havoc to others and because Kam can take over a game)

5. Xavier (would be a shame if they aren't in the dance. Remind me of SJU at this time last year, when Hurley said later that they played them the toughest during the whole NCAA run. Got started a bit too late, but if X gets in the dance, I think they can beat someone because of the offense and coach)

6. Nova (talk about a critical coaching decision coming up)

7. Gtown (better this year, but still believe Cooley has disappointed through 2 years, especially when you consider what's happened in NY with the guy hired at the same time)

8. Butler (emerged from the bottom of the pack with their offensive ability, but losing their key offensive players this year, so they really really need to do some damage in the portal).

9. Providence (bad luck again with Hopkins, but the "shine" has definitely come off English some after last year, when he think he did a good job navigating that team after the first Hopkins injury) (also, English seems to have "something" every game where he is getting into with a fan, official, other coach, other team, etc)

10. Depaul (not going crazy, but I do think they took a positive step with how they ended the year and performed in the Big East tournament)

11. Hall (enough has been said)

If you can say, what are "family benefits"?
Rumors are some alumni named "Happy", not the "R" word, set her up with a new job and apartment. Richmond wanted to leave early in the season, but it was made clear by the other "R" word by "Happy" that all that stuff would be taken away. So he stayed the course.

English has always been a prick going back to his days at Missouri. Not surprised he's having conduct issues.

1 - St. John's
2 - Creighton
3 - UCONN
4 - Marquette

5 - Xavier
6 - Villanova

7 - Georgetown
8 - Butler
9 - Providence

10 - DePaul

11 - Seton Hall

Week 19

1. SJU 31-5 18-2
Well, there's always the Kentucky Derby

2. UConn 24-11 14-6
Hurley wrecks quality season with his bellyaching

3. Creighton 25-11 15-5
Is Kalkbrenner really gone

4. Marquette 23-11 13-7
Said last week something missing

5. Xavier 22-12 13-7
Best of the rest, by far

6. Nova 19-14 11-9
Willard?

7. Georgetown 17-15 8-12
Expected more from Cooley

8. Butler 14-19 6-14
About as expected

9. Providence 12-20 6-14
Maybe Providence doesn't speak English

10. DePaul 14-19 4-16
Trending in the right direction

11. Seton Hall 7-25 2-18
Sha has earned one more chance, but no more

What is the bar for next year RE: Sha? To me, anything less than a .500 season and it is time to move on. Can’t wait around for 6 years this time.

SHU can't afford to fire Sha. We just have to hope this past season with limited NIL funds was an anomaly.
When I said 1 more chance I meant regarding support from the fanbase.

Hard to say at this point. Have to think Pitino and Hurley won't accept the end of season results. Both are driven men on Steroids. Creighton lose a great deal to graduation. Marquette are regular season bullies unable to elevate during Tournament play. The other programs may or may not become legit players next season. Sha is not quite on the clock. Getting close.

Marquette is now devoid of the outstanding talent they developed over the past few years. Shaka has got to go into the portal like everyone else else.

He should have gotten a 5 this year. In retrospect it was a really bad decision to surround those guards and wings with Gold and the young backup, because I think that team would have been deadly with a traditional physical defensive presence at the 5.

The one issue with that is clogging the middle. So much of Kam Jones' game was driving to the hoop. Having a big like Gold helped to draw the defense out.

I think over a season, Shaka’s system works. But in the NCAAT, a team needs size, rim protection and rebounding. The New Mexico guards finished at the rim unimpeded.
