1. Nova 6-0 King of the hill until someone knocks them off.

2. Xavier 7-0 Good? Yeah! But this good? Yeah!

3. Georgetown 2-3 Record deceiving. Potential to beat anyone in the Big East.

4. Butler 4-1 Last of the elite teams in the league.

5. Providence 6-1 Could have moved up to the elite grouping if they won last night.

6. Seton Hall 5-1 How good? We'll know more Wed night.

7. Marquette 4-2. Big man combo can beat any team in the conference on a given night.

8. Creighton 5-1. Hitting their stride and could move up soon.

9. DePaul 2-3. Not last only because SJU plays in the Big East.

10. St John's 4-2 Mullin inherited a mess. He'll need time.

I have to say - I did not think Xavier would be this good. But then again - we have an example right in our own house of a team losing key seniors only to charge forward. Xavier, pretty impressive.

imo, a healthy Providence is in the top tier. They are a no doubt about it tournament team as long as Dunn and Bentil stay healthy.

I think Georgetown is probably better than Xavier but tough to put them ahead based on the Muskie's 7-0 start with a destruction of Dayton and win at UM. My only observation is that I'd put Providence in a class by themselves, as I think there is some separation between them and SHU/Marquette/Creighton, but I agree with leaving them out of the top tier for now.

1) Villanova
2) Georgetown
3) Xavier
4) Butler

5) Providence

6) Marquette
7) Creighton
8) Seton Hall

9) DePaul
10) St John's

I see it pretty much that way too. I think BU and XU could switch. I think the top team will lose 5 or more games. It would be great if the top 4 were ranked early and stayed there.

Changes in 5-7 would not shock me either. I have not yet seen 8,9 or 10, but the top 7 teams all have promise imo. Very impressed with Mq's turnaround and with two big guys, they can be a tough out.

There is absolutely no way that right now, today, anyone could possibly have 2-3 Georgetown (unranked nationally with only 4 votes) over 7-0 Xavier (ranked 12th with 801 votes).

As I noted above and in last week's thread this is not a projection, but a ranking based on play to date.

BE results to date in the non conference have been tremendous. This should cement 5 bids to the NCAAs. If this keeps up until conference games begin the BE could get 6 bids like last year.

Right now Kenpom has the Big East only behind the Big 12 & ACC.

Dan, I don't think you realize gtown played At Maryland, Duke & Wisconsin on a neutral court. X's only nice win is at Michigan

I actually think Georgetown will win the league this year. They also lost away and to some pretty good teams compared to Marquette.

What are all of these old inactive accounts owned by one guy and he decided to start trolling?

Respectfully, neither do the two national polls that came out yesterday. In both polls combined Georgetown received 4 votes. Xavier, over a 1000.

That may be true. The top teams will certainly give Nova a run for their money. But that's not what this thread is about.

I find it funny that many observers, including some on this board, claim that the BE is not a power conference any longer (the prior two preseasons). Nova, X, Marq and Creighton all won their holiday tournaments. G'town finished 2nd losing to Duke and Prov finished 2nd losing to #3 MSU. The BE RPI is #2 only behind the B12. Once SJU gets going this conference will be awesome, lets hope that we are players as well.

The Big East is off to a great start, but we have the last couple of years as well. It's not how you start, but how you finish. I think a lot of posters are being cautious, we really need to go deeper into the NCAA's in March. Much like the Seton Hall program.

FWIW, Kenpom now has Big East's Villanova as the # 1 team in the nation.

Too high in my opinion as their lack of size will hurt them against quality competition. But Nova can beat anyone with their D if they shoot well from range.

Providence is better than everyone thought myself included. it's a shame that the 7'2" kid decided to transfer to Cuse because that is all they are lacking from being a serious threat for a nice run this year.

I was at the MSU game on Sunday and I can tell you they gave them all they could handle, led the vast majority of the game only to be derailed by fouls, FT shooting (MSU shot 14 more FT's, and all PC starters had 4 fouls in the last 4 minutes) and a little fatigue at the end of the game.

They are significantly more athletic and tougher than I expected. Bentil has made a huge jump.

One takeaway I have after watching them all weekend is that Cooley has done a remarkable job building this program in his image. They are setup very well for the future. Also Dunn is obviously bigger physically than last year. PC will challenge in the BE this year, no doubt in my mind.

What was Chukwu's reasons for leaving PC? He had a perfect opportunity with a ton of frontcourt playing time opening up with Desrosiers, Harris, etc all leaving.

I had a chance to talk to numerous people close to the program and it was a shock to all but apparently he just didn't like the school. Too small, lacking in diversity, etc... Plus he is a bit of a loaner, which is not easy to be at a school like PC. It's a problem PC has struggled with for years. The other thing I heard was he just didn't like school in general. With PC's Western Civ requirement for all students the 1st two years are tough on athletes who don't particularly like school.

He passed on a year where he would have been receiving alley oops from the best pg in the country. Just crazy but you only get one shot at this and you might as well be happy.

I have seen PC a few times and liked what I saw. Obviously Dunn is great, and Bentil is playing real well.

It's not a huge reach for us to go 6-2 against Marquette, Creighton, DePaul and St. John's. If we could find a way to win three at home against the rest of the league (perhaps Georgetown, Xavier and Providence) we'd be .500 in the league and at least in the discussion on selection Sunday. Wins over George Washington and Wichita State (tough as that one would be) should get us into the Dance.

I don't think 9-9 would do it. I think 10 or 11 is needed.
