Assane Mbaye

Piratz why are you so cruel to the young man? He did show shot blocking, defense and scoring at the high school level as seen by videos and his school stats! He went to a good BB school too.

He probably could get NIL money in today's new world of college hoops!

No but according to some here he is a horrible player and does not deserve a chance. If that is truly the case than Sha is at fault since we should have walk-ons that at least can contribute in practice or even in games when needed.

Hopefully he’s improving. Would be great to be able to get 10mpg from him next year .

If I was Sha I would have a big man's coach working like hell with him this off season and getting him ready for the coming season to make a contribution! But then that is me.

If I was sha I wouldn’t have a 5+mil NIL pot and be reaching out to low major prospects

You know it’s really bad when an entire thread has been created for a guy that was a walk on—and didn’t play—for a 7-25 team.

And there is argument over whether he could block 2 shots a game and therefore make a 22 point loss 18 instead.

The next thread can be about the alternate for flag man next year.

IMO, Jaden and Godswill both showed terrific improvement in one season.

Catholicman, any chance you could pull a few strings with Assane Mbaye? I remember watching Ro Gil in layup lines and laughing at the idea of him playing the Big East. Can the Lord throw us another bone?

If we can get a 7'2" center that is BE ready then fine. But there is an old adage that you can't teach height. You can teach a kid how to score in the low post, block shots, rebound etc.. You can't grow kids who are undersized to be studs down low as we are trying to do lately.

I would suggest you look at the stats for the kids who played center this past season and see if you still feel that way. Probably the worse post play in the BE contributing to the awful record. Offense and defense were at the bottom or near it.

i watched the games. there is no doubt in my mind that godswill improved a great deat from start to finish. imo. post play was no worse that pg pkay, sf play or any other position. none were close to good enough. but i saw improvement in godswill.

I don't mind him as a starter he earned heck of playing time as a freshman so he took his lumps

He is not ready to play at this level yet, if ever. You can’t just throw him in there because he’s tall. So was Cher Ajou and Melvyn Oliver.

Definitely got better and will continue to moving forward.

Bediako also raised his level of play while making a major jump in competition level.

For the last 2 games of the season (UConn and Villanova) Godswill contributed a total of 3 rebounds and 5 points. He may have gotten better as the season progressed but he will have to get a heck of a lot better for the Pirates to be better than 2 and 18 in the BE.

Give him some credit as he is the best we've got. A major improvement over when the season began & better than Okorafor. Now if the forwards can improve, oh wait, we don't have any!

Wasn't Godswill hurt at the end of the year?

Of all the things to take issue with last year, and there are far too many, the play and development of Godswill seems like one that could evade a failure designation.

Agreed, he has to take a major jump next year, but it is not an unreasonable expectation for the staff or fans.

I think by the end results the whole team was hurting at the end of the year.
No, he was playing in the first half of Nova and I believe went to the locker room with about 16 minutes left in first half and never returned.

He had those 5 and 3 against Connecticut. He only played 7 minutes against Villanova. Something was up the last 3 games from when he hurt his elbow against Creighton because he only played 5 minutes that game, then 16 against Connecticut, then just 7 against Villanova at the BET.

Prior to that he had averaged 25 MPG over the previous 6 where he came of age a bit. That came against St. John's (18-2), Villanova (11-9), Xavier (13-7), Marquette (13-7), Connecticut (14-6), and Georgetown (8-12). No frauds. That includes some of the best bigs in the conference, notably when Sorber was still healthy at Georgetown and before the Hoyas tanked without him.

In those 6 games is where he showed that he had caught up to the speed and physicality of the Big East and could hold his own, averaging 7 PPG (20/31 FG) and 6 RPG in 25 MPG on a terrible basketball team that didn't use its center. He put up solid numbers for a freshman big against Tier A/B opponents. Does he have to improve? Yes. Did he show improvement as a true freshmen who had missed the prior year with a broken foot? Yes. Is there hope there? Yes.

This is the type of player The Hall needs to retain and develop because clearly we're unable to sign anyone with that stat line. I mean that was basically what Bediako did in the BE for a full season the year prior.

Unless you surround him with studs at the 3 and 4 position we will get killed in the post offensively and defensively. Do you really see us getting those kind of players?

wait—so you think we are better off with Mbaye at the 5 than Godswill?
