Bad Beat Maryland MSU

Not a good look by Maryland at the end. You want a better shot than a deep 3 with 8 seconds left

KW special. Clear out and let one guy try to do it all himself. Their best player (Queen) is wide open at the top and he doesn't even touch it. So dumb.

As per stats-reference, his record in the tourney is 6 Years (2-6). If you're counting this year, it still only 7.
I’m counting the 2020 year with Seton Hall that they cancelled and didn’t even announce a bracket for due to COVID.

And yes assuming they make it this year, but they’re in great position would be difficult to blow it.

2016 Seton Hall
2017 Seton Hall
2018 Seton Hall
2019 Seton Hall
2020 Seton Hall
2022 Seton Hall
2023 Maryland
2025 Maryland

And the year he missed here in 2021, we collapsed. We were 10-5 in the BE before imploding in that bizarre COVID year.

Such a dumb post. Kid makes a steal with 9 seconds and rushes up court. Takes a terrible shot probably loses track of time remaining. But yeah, Willard’s fault. The guy’s been gone for three years but some small group of posters can’t get him out of their mind apparently.

He took the shot with 4.5. It's still a bad shot but we don't need to exaggerate.

If he takes one more dribble, he burns enough time that MSU probably can't get that last shot or it's not as clean as look.

The best coaches train their teams on what to do in end of game situations. Down 1, up 1, tied, down 2, up 2, etc. But I guess I'm not surprised that you don't know that.

😂 damn I didn’t exaggerate. I thought it wa that time — I didn’t go back and study it.

Goodness people on here are insanely touchy.

Does it really matter?

Just to put the play into proper context.

Gillespie got a rebound with 9 seconds to go. He didn’t get a steal and was off to the races out of control.

He got a good look, but it’s a tough pull up three from way deeper than I would like to see if I am the coach. And it happens more often than not these days in those type of end game decisions.

Would love to see all players taught to attack the basket there. Get to the rim and if you miss there is a chance for a put back. Or better yet put the pressure on the D not to foul, because refs have been sending guys to the line in these situations all over the country. They don’t swallow the whistle like they used to.

All that being said. This is not on Willard in that moment.

What ever you say coach. You really must be something on the sidelines in front of 16,000 people with 9 seconds on the clock. I have confidence in all your big game experience.

yes they do. But who are the best coaches? I guarantee every coach you name has a team that makes a bonehead play down the stretch in a game and results in a loss in the tournament. It happens to everyone.

We can sure do better than what we have on the sidelines now....

Except for some, such as KW, it happens all the time. How many times did he give the ball to one guy and had everyone else get out of the way on the last possession of a half? Too many to count, most of them failed. It's lazy coaching.

You don’t win 21 games if it happens to you all of the time

He likes iso ball. When you have best player on the court in Powell or Whitehead It won a lot of games too. But when the ball crosses half court with 6 seconds to go, you’re looking for the first good look whether you’re Pitino Wilard or Izzo especially in a 55-55 game because both teams are locked in defensively. If you don’t take the first good look you may not get one. Lazy coaching got him to 16th???
