Ban on stock trading?

It's all a joke. So the men and women of congress won't be able to trade stocks. But their adult children will be able to. I'm sure with their earnings they'll buy a new freezer stocked with expensive ice cream for their parents after they make a killing in the market.

"But Spanberger and Hawley’s bills, if passed, would go further than restricting just members of Congress from buying and trading stocks. They want to also ban members’ spouses and dependent children from investing as well."

Adult children are not dependent children.

Adult children are not dependent children.

Why should the adult children of every politician be prohibited from owning stock? They have every right to invest, as does you and me.

The problem isn't politicians or their children owning stock. It's using information they gain through their position to engage in inside trading. Enforce the laws on the books and punish those who do it. That's the solution. Everything else is a distraction.

In that sense it would be just as easy to tell a friend the same information.. The point was to not let members direct the investments which they could / would for dependent children.

It's a tough line to draw, but that does seem reasonable.

They should basket a group of stocks at the start of each term into various ETFs and allow members (and the public) to trade within that group.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed. All I'm saying is the game is still going to be played just a little differently. The end result is this will accomplish little to nothing. Politicians will still have the ability to financially help their families through the market.

I'd like to see something where they can be removed from office for giving out information that is told to them confidentially. Also requiring the money to be given back to some organization.

Hey there! I'm new here, but I couldn't resist chiming in on this topic. As someone who's into trading and all that jazz, the idea of banning congresspeople from stock trading is pretty intriguing. It's about time they start being held accountable for their actions. In terms of trading, have any of you guys heard of the triangle chart pattern? It's a pretty popular chart pattern that can help predict trend reversals and breakouts in the market. Definitely something to keep in mind when making trades. Anyway, let's see if this ban on stock trading for congresspeople actually goes through. It would definitely be a game changer in the world of finance.
