Sure, it's easy to say China is bad so we must ban it because it's China...

well pretty much everyone agrees they are our greatest threat so there’s that.

but I would like to think we have a higher standard of why we ban things. If there is an actual national security threat, they should be able to describe what that threat is outside of it being an app owned by China.

We should be more cautious and measured with any of China’s actions.

The threat seems to be that members of congress were convinced that people could share a sentiment that is against the US or our allies, and those posts will get amplified. It's just funny because China bans foreign apps because they are afraid of what their citizens may see... and we all agree it is wrong for China to do that, and then argue that we are correct to do the same?

False equivalence.

and fwiw, I have been using Tiktok since 2020. My algorithm is pretty much clips about sports, movies, comedians, food reviews and baking. I guess my Chinese spy really wants me to get back into sourdough baking.

No one is suggesting we shouldn't be.
Give more scrutiny to the app. Dig in further to what data they are collecting to see how they are operating, take a look at the algorithm to see how people are being influenced.

The app was not doing anything other apps weren't doing so they changed the risk to the "potential".

and again... the biggest player spending money to block it was it's biggest competitor who members of congress hold investments in.
^ That deserves some higher level scrutiny as well.
