Seton Hall has now won nine straight games highlighted by a weekend sweep of Xavier last week to open the BIG EAST portion of their schedule. The Pirates have now won 15 of their last 17 games since starting the season 1-8. On Thursday, The Hall opened BIG EAST play with a 7-4 victory at Xavier. Zach Prendergast pitched seven innings and gave up three runs to earn his fourth victory of the season. Zack Weigel went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. After a day of rain, the series concluded with a double-header on Saturday. In the opener, the Pirates held on for a 4-2 victory. Closer Joe DiBenedetto entered the game with the bases loaded with one out in the ninth, and managed to keep the Musketeers off the scoreboard for his first save of the season. In the second game, Seton Hall defeated Xavier, 5-2. Zach Schellenger picked up his first career victory with 5.2 innings of one-run baseball. Sal Annunziata reached base four times and drove in three of the Pirates' five runs. For their efforts over the weekend, DiBenedetto was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, while Weigel was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. On Wednesday, Seton Hall defeated Wagner in a non-conference mid-week contest, 6-1. Anthony Pacillo threw five two-hit scoreless innings for the win.

Seton Hall and St. John's will resume its long-running BIG EAST rivalry this weekend. The Red Storm have won 61 of 115 all-time meetings. Last season, St. John's won two of three games during the regular season at Owen T. Carroll Field, but Seton Hall got its revenge with a 1-0 victory during the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament. St. John's was picked to win the BIG EAST this season, while Seton Hall was picked third. However, the teams were separated by just three votes. Seton Hall head coach Rob Sheppard and St. John's head coach Ed Blankmeyer are brothers-in-law. Blankmeyer was also a former player and assistant coach for the Pirates.
WHIPPING WAGNER
Seton Hall improved to 6-0 during mid-week games with a 6-1 victory in Staten Island on Wednesday. Anthony Pacillo pitched five innings of two-hit, shutout baseball to earn the victory. Zack Weigel and Ryan Ramiz had two hits apiece for the Pirates.

Seton Hall opened BIG EAST play with a three-game road sweep of Xavier last weekend. The Pirates defeated the Musketeers on Thursday, 7-4. After a day of rain, Seton Hall swept a double-header on Saturday, winning 4-2 in the opener and 5-2 in game two.
DIBENEDETTO PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Joe DiBenedetto was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. The Pirates' closer recorded saves in both ends of a double-header on Saturday at Xavier. During the first game (7 innings), DiBenedetto entered the contest with a 4-2 lead, but Xavier had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with just one out. The left-hander was able to preserve the Pirates victory by inducing a pair of fielder's choices.
WEIGEL TO HONOR ROLL
Junior Zack Weigel was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Weigel led the Pirates with a .500 batting average in a three-game sweep of Xavier. The outfielder started the weekend strong, going 3-for-5 with a team-best three RBIs and a double on Thursday. He reached base at least twice in all three games.
OPENING WEEKEND
Despite their success in recent years, this is the first time the Pirates have won their BIG EAST opening series since 2011. The Pirates dropped the opening series to Rutgers in 2012, Notre Dame in 2013 and Butler last season. Furthermore, its the first time Seton Hall has swept a BIG EAST-opening series since sweeping Connecticut in 1998.
