Came here looking for some talk about this weekend's big series with Creighton and... crickets?

Baseball lost game # 2 of the Series today to Creighton. The rubber match is Sunday afternoon. This has been
a difficult season thus far for the Pirates. They have never been able to play on a very high level as of yet. The season started off with that tough series against UNC in the cold weather and it's been an uphill battle ever since.

The major issue has been that the returning impact players have had subpar years and that's somewhat surprising. In addition last year's draft wiped out key members of the pitching staff. The new pitchers have been the bright spot.

No reason to pounce on them and be overly critical. It's just one of those years up to this point. It's still a great program. The current players have to dig deep and get tougher. In the limited amount of times that I saw this year's team play, their lack of toughness at the plate is what stands out. That is not Seton Hall Baseball.

The key now is to get into the BigEast Tournament and they should be able to do that. Currently, they are in 3rd place ahead of Gtown and Villanova. 4 Teams qualify. They have to start playing more consistent baseball and it's time for the them to elevate their play. Like we've said throughout the year, they do have the ability to be the dangerous team going down the stretch. The entire roster has to buy in to that and they'll have a chance to be the BigEast representative at the NCAA Tournament.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall baseball team held a five-run lead, but Creighton rallied to defeat the Pirates, 10-7, on Saturday at Owen T. Carroll Field.

Four Pirates collected two hits in the loss. Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs and a stolen base. Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) reached base a team-high three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three sacrifice bunts.

The story of today's game was Seton Hall's inability to get the third out of an inning. Nine of Creighton's 10 runs were scored with two outs.

After Creighton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Seton Hall's offense erupted for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Weigel walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on Jenkins' first sacrifice bunt. Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) walked and Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) singled to load the bases with one out. Boyd followed with a two-RBI double to right field to give Seton Hall a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Poduslenko singled to center field to drive in two more runs and extend The Hall's advantage to 4-1.

An RBI single by Jenkins scored Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) in the bottom of the second to give Seton Hall a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Poduslenko drove in Boyd with an RBI single and the Pirates appeared on their way to a rout with a 6-1 advantage.

Creighton's offense broke out in a big way in the top of the fourth inning, as 10 men came to the plate in a five-run, three-hit outburst off Seton Hall starter Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) that tied the game at six.

From there, Creighton scored in every inning the rest of the way, except the eighth as the usually dependable Pirates' bullpen struggled.

Zach Schellenger (Malvern, Pa.) entered the game in the fifth inning for Seton Hall and gave up the go-ahead run for the Bluejays. With runners on second and third and one out, Schellenger struck out Daniel Woodrow for the second out, but a wild pitch while facing Nicky Lopez plated Creighton's seventh run.

The Bluejays added an insurance run in the sixth inning to make the score 8-6, but the Pirates got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) and Ramiz led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Weigel followed with an RBI single to plate Chiaradio and cut the lead to 8-7. Jenkins bunted both runners into scoring position with one out, but the potential tying and go-ahead runs were stranded.

Seton Hall will complete its three-game series with Creighton with the rubber game tomorrow at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.

Tough to have a good year when you lose your best pitcher from the year before and hit .256 as a team.

Down 4-1 in the top of the 8th. They just can't get anything going today.

NYC Pirate - they open up the season every year against UNC and the weather always is quite cold every season no? Poor excuse for the teams performance this year. There ay be valid reasons for it, but UNC and cold weather are not since they're constants every season win or lose.

It's an amazingly light hitting team. So many ground ball outs and they strikeout almost 1 out of every 4 at bats. Very strange season at the plate.

Actually last year they opened up at Oklahoma and then went to Arizona and swept them. They historically have played UNC quite often to start the season and have never had any success for the most part. I'm somewhat critical of their approach at the plate I do think the weather was a factor in the early part of the season, but there should be no excuses of late. The pitching is not awful although losing Prevost was a big hit. Like I said the batters give away too many at bats, no sense of urgency. You have to battle like its the 9th inning and you're down to your last strike when you go to the plate. Good pitchers will overwhelm you if you don't.

SHU was hitting in the 4 games they played in The Sunbird Classic at Pt Charlotte,Fl. The temperature was in the high 80's (hot) and so were the bats.

DiBenedetto was lights out vs Creighton. In 1.1 innings in game 1 and 4 innings in game 3 he did not give up any hits or runs. Too bad he did not pitch in game 2 when we had a 6-1 lead, we probably would have won the series 2 to 1.

6 games left against GT and Nova. Need to take care of business to get in that tournament.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall baseball team mustered just three hits in dropping the series finale to Creighton, 4-2, on Sunday at Owen T. Carroll Field.

Creighton starter Matt Warren had a perfect game through 4.1 innings before Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) hit a triple to left center field. Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) followed with an RBI ground out to get Seton hall on the scoreboard, but it was the only run that Warren allowed. The Bluejay right-hander pitched seven innings and gave up just three hits and one run.

Meanwhile, Seton Hall starter Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) also started well, but Creighton got to him in the middle innings. Like his Bluejay counterpart, Elia was perfect through two innings, but gave up the first run of the game in the third inning on two hits and an error. The left-hander did a fine job of limiting the damage to just one run as he got out of a bases loaded, one-out jam by getting Reagan Fowler to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

In the fourth however, Creighton got on the scoreboard and again was aided by a Seton Hall error. With one out, Creighton's Brett Murray reached on a fielding error by Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.). A single, a double and a sacrifice fly later, the Bluejays had a 3-0 lead.

Fowler hit a one-out double off Elia in the fifth inning to plate another insurance run for Creighton and extend its lead to 4-0.

Trailing 4-1 in the eighth inning, the Pirates put another run on the scoreboard, but didn't get any closer. Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Poduslenko advanced to third on a throwing error by Creighton's right fielder and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.).

Sophomore Joe DiBenedetto (Staten Island, N.Y.) came on in relief of Elia to begin the sixth and pitched the final four innings without giving up a single hit. The left-hander struck out five and walked only one as he pitched to only one over the minimum. DiBenedetto still hasn't given up an earned run in 18.1 innings in 2015 and opponents are now hitting a paltry .125 against him.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, May 8 when it travels to Villanova for the first of three games. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
