Bediako

We need to use him more, he can score down low..........
6 points on a total of 6 offensive rebounds last night. Has a bad habit of bringing the ball down to his waist in order to gather and go back up again.

Doesn’t have a lot of lift in his shot. Essentially none.

So you have to get it to him where he can make a move quickly.

Does not operate well in traffic.

True --but he plays hard , rebounds and he has improved --Nova wished it had him last nite

Absolutely. I don’t question that at all.

My response was to specifically towards running more offense through him.

He should get a couple post up touches per game. He just needs to get better at putting it up more quickly on an offensive board by keeping the ball high and using that height advantage.

Totally agree. Was surprised we didn't go to him more especially with Oduro in foul trouble. Big J missed Kadary more than most.

Sha needs to work on this. I side out ball will free up more open 3s.

Why no ball reversals for Sanders for easy open 3s? He's not great off the dribble, but set the kid up once in awhile. St. Peter's did this beautifully with lesser talent. We dribble way too much at the expense of good passing.

Wow, surprising he‘s even playing.

Come on now. Don’t be so defensive in what I wrote.

He has been fantastic. But can we be realistic in evaluating what he does well.
  • High energy / high motor player.
  • Good free throw shooter
  • Physical low post defense
  • Ability to block and alter shot.
  • Rebounds well in his area
  • Hedges well on the pick and roll for a guy his size.
  • Anticipates missed shot and aggressive at going after offensive rebounds
  • Ability to finish with either hand around the basket.
  • Ability to hit a hook shot with his right from about 4-6 feet away.
Areas of opportunity / limitations, and since he is a 5th year player, he is what he is.
  • Brings the ball down to his waist or power dribbles in order to gather himself to go up for a shot after an offensive rebound
  • Average hands at receiving interior passes
  • Can’t shoot a jump shot facing up to the basket.
  • Limited range with his left besides put backs.
  • Works hard to recover on high pick and roll hedge, but usually gives up ground in the post position to do so.
  • Lateral movement is average at best.

It’s ok to take off the blue tinted glasses when looking at what our players are capable of doing. I know the coaching staff is doing that.

I mean if Bediako had such a strong offensive repertoire, don’t you think by game 20 Sha would have run some sets to showcase those abilities more often. Or he might have demonstrated it in his four years prior, which none of the game film showed.

Kadary was out, Wusu had a career worst type game, and Dre Davis didn’t step up and command the ball more. It happens, we lost, and our offense looked bad.

The solution is not to start running more offense through Jaden Bediako.

We rarely feed the post in a meaningful way. Bediako isn’t as flexible nor will he wow with drop step moves or PNR ability, he is crafty, he’s tough, and he’s a tremendous offensive side rebounder and keeps his position on defense. But you have to clear the side or a lane for him more IMO if you want him to be available for more offense.

That center position has been a huge improvement overall compared to last year.

I believe he can pass the ball better than he has out of the post. Last game when he would get an offensive rebound the ball stuck with him. He needs to pass the ball more vs taking shots when he’s out of position. Love how hard he works but teams are now wiser to his ball fakes and he needs to either shoot the ball faster or look for the open man.

I actually loved his play in the first half of the PC game. He was owning the boards and ultra physical and disruptive in the paint. I think the Castro push (which I cant believe wasn't a flagrant) was based on the frustration of him bullying Adoro and the Friars down there. Him and Dre carried us early in that game.

In the second half, he seemed to wear down a bit and (to the post above) got blocked a few times from bringing the ball down to low and giving Adoro time to react.

All in all, he has been a tremendous add. I feel both Centers can keep up with the the league and we are greatly improved at the 5 from last season. Their Offensive rebounding, free throw %, EH's 3 point threat, and ability to battle have been invaluable. Center play was a big concern/question mark over the offseason - and I think Sha more than answered the call with these 2.

Bediako has been a very solid big this season. Hes hedging very hard on screens to avoid 3s and recovering. Hes more agile than everett in that sense and better overall. Anything we get from them is a plus. We havent used them in the post very much to establish a presence, therefore teams dont need to help and doesnt open up the wings or driving lanes much. But happy w them so far.

I feel like we establish or try to establish Bediako in the post at the beginning of every game and then go away from it.

I watched the game again and at least twice Bediako had the ball in the low post and it was literally taken out of his hands by a smaller player and a scoring chance lost. So his hand strength needs improvement

I didn’t think he had his A game (or B) against Providence.

Have to say I didn’t know what to expect from Bediako coming into this season. My expectations have been exceeded. He’s been a solid big man for us. Not perfect, but he does the things you want form a veteran big man; rebound, defend, clean up on the glass offensively.

Same can be said for EHE. But Elijah’s abiity to step out and take and make a 3 on occasion is a nice feature to have from your low post players.

Overall, nice job by Shaheen and staff getting these 2 guys.

He scores well when he puts the ball up down low, he blocks when need be, he rebounds well, I wish we had him another year he is prob. a pleasant suprise

Bediako has exceeded my expectations more than anybody on the roster, bar none. Been a great add.
Seconded. Bediako has been tremendous and has given us prowess and balance. We’re talking about a player who is 4th in the country in OR%, and 31st in block % for a team that wasn’t sure what they’d get up front.

In BE games alone, it’s 2nd in OR%, 1st in BLK%, 9th in FT rate.

The lone bright spot in Milwaukee.

18 points and 8 rebounds, 6/8 and 6/6 from the line. 👏
