The Mullin hiring, if accompanied by the big recruiter news being speculated about is the best thing that could happen to the BE, which is on shaky ground IMO given the second bad NCAA showing and lack of TV ratings.
I find it amazing that Lavin never pursued Alkins. If I was Mullin, I have scheduled a meeting with Alkins right after the announcement to emphasize how much I want this kid. People love to say the original BE was about coaches, but JT aint JT without Patrick, and Louie aint Louie w/o Chris. Those two guys plus Pearl gave the league that early cache.
I hope Mullin is a smash hire and the MSG games against the best BE teams again fill all of NYC with excitement. It isn't good for us short term, but nothing is worse for us long term that the BE slipping away from the big time. We love the FOX contract, but the league has to perform eventually or FOX looks for another way to ill the airwaves.
Our current situation tells us all we need to know about our place in the league. We struggle to stay with the pack. But being there can eventually lead us places that are not possible w/o a strong BE.
