To all this unpleasantness. Just stop with the anthem at ball games. It’s not necessary. It’s not played at other events like the theater or concerts.

Take away their fuel and the fire will start to burn out. I hold no sympathy for the disrespect.

It's alot more than the anthem now. It's sleeve patches, it's tributes before games, it's propaganda on the pitching mound. Sports have went full woke.

True. But the anthem is the real fuel to the fire of the intolerant and ill informed. I view it as a small sacrifice to take the air out of their nonsense.

Again is it right or wrong that teams have patriotic social messages mem day vets day july 4th? Same thing here...not propoganda

Yes celebrating our national holidays is meant to unify our country. Alienating a large portion of your fans based on some myths is division.
No attendance this season. WNBA has had attendance issues since they were born.
MLB has had attedance issues for several years. TV Ratings is the litmus test here. If one isnt going to a game in normal circumstances cant see them watching it then. I wanna see MLB tv ratings struggle because BLM is on a sleeve.

Curious to see if the Anthem will be televised before every game. Unless it was an important game (playoff, holiday, opening day, etc) most networks would skip even showing it on TV using that time for a commercial, some type of prerecorded video or an on screen graphic. Sad this is something that this is even a topic.

Placing ourselves in the shoes of those asking for justice and asking what would you do to have your voice heard. And then go back to the drawing board because after many decades, past attempts although productive, never completely solved the problem.
And then some people ask those players—who we all cheer and pull for to perform for our respective teams/schools—to not make a small pre game gesture or not have a BLM patch on their sleeve on behalf of their family and relatives because they don’t want to feel uncomfortable.

This highlights exactly why it will continue.

Walking out during the anthem? That a small gesture or a collective middle finger in the fan base eyes?

Why stop there? Maybe some enterprising woke athlete will burn the flag during the anthem.

For all those people who oppose the current way athletes are trying to push for equal treatment, what do you suggest they do in order to get their message across?

Those people want them to be emotionless droid solvers at their craft and not pursue any expressed message at the craft

First of all, what’s the message? What do they specifically want? Do a little research on the Greensboro Four. One of the most effective protests of my lifetime.

Save it for the campus or rallies or mentoring. Meanwhile, just respect the country and the flag whose system is giving players a free education -because sometimes they can put a ball through a hoop.

What message do they need to get across? America in 2020 is the most advanced, least racist it has ever been.

Oh that's coming.

“Least racist.” That’s an interesting formulation. Least racist compared to what? Ok, it took 80 years to get rid of slavery. Way too long but America did it. Then it took another 100 years to get rid of Jim Crow although some would say that battle is not completely won. So yes, your formulation of “least racist” has some credence. But at least you acknowledge that the racism that came from slavery continues to this day.

So for 180 years of our 230 year history (75% of our history) black Americans descendent from slavery have had the worst housing, the worst educational opportunities, the worst health care, the lowest paying jobs and due to misguided social policy, an unstable family environment for many. And it still continues.

The guys on our team have seen all this stuff, know all this stuff, and most likely have lived it. So yeah, if they want to make a statement in some way, more power to them. Some people, maybe many people, probably prefer if they did it in some way not connected with the anthem. But its their decision.

because they do stop there. walking out is maybe the calmest thing you can do. if you cant handle that you have a massive issue. and even bigger for trying to even throw burnig the flag into the discussion. talking about stoking the flames

Thanks for the reference. However in this climate with Federal agents (No one knows who they really are) and officers beating down on peaceful protesters, what else could people in this movement do to get equal treatment without fear of getting assaulted?

But that’s the point, it doesn’t seem like the country is giving them respect since their lives are so easily expendable in the eyes of law enforcement. And do we really think most college programs provide an adequate environment that fosters an athlete to get a quality education?

That black lives are exponentially expendable at the hands of authorities. It may seem less racist than decades ago but there are mechanisms built in the infrastructure of this country that still discriminate against people of color that does not allow society to progress forward.

No one’s opinion ever changed on a message board. It’s odd to me how some spend their day.

It’s beautiful out if you live in NJ. Go outside and enjoy the last few hours of sunlight.

Feel uncomfortable about what exactly!? They are being disrespectful. The doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable, that pisses me off. There is a difference.

I posted at 7:15. Humidity was gone. Finished cleaning my foraged mushrooms. Started the grill. Got the fire pit going. Pulled down the screen and have the projector ready to go. Just need it to get dark and pick a movie.

life is ok!

Well, like some here (including me) have said, take a page from MLB and kneel before or after the anthem and stand for the anthem. You missed that?

How many black men are innocently killed by law enforcement per year? Very few. And that shouldn't really be the full focus of this. Blacks are treated differently by law enforcement, I believe that. But I don't hear much about that, I only hear about the very few killings of innocents by law enforcement.

You didn’t answer my question.

Huh? Sorry, I thought the BLM message was pretty clear but I’ll clarify that the BLM message is looking to change the unjust treatment of black people by law enforcement. In the bigger picture, they are looking for the equality in society that is their God given right.

Sorry I missed that. As obsessively I check this board, I don’t read every single thread...unless of course it’s a Taurean Thompson one.

But that’s the focus of the movement...innocent black people getting killed by law enforcement. Very few innocent people getting killed is still too many. And most of those we know about are only because there was video proof of it. Can you imagine how many that happen that we don’t know about because there was no video of it?

So what will change that? That’s a nice platitude but what legislation or policy would you suggest that would make that happen?

The vast majority of Americans believe in equality.

Even better that it’s pissing you off. These things aren’t done so that people shrug their shoulders and look away.

How many times have people said “oh you’re not like other black people” or my favorite: “he’s a well spoken athlete”. That wouldn’t be said about a white player. Does that piss you off? I bet it doesn’t.

Here’s a tip. If you want to garner more widespread support for your cause pissing people off is not a winning strategy.

I could go so many ways with this....

1). Do you mean like the current president who divides and gets people pissed off?

2). Or do you mean pissing people off so that you start to get some attention.

To me, I think it’s a question of why people are getting so angry over something so passive and something that is symbolic. Not the real thing that’s happened to an entire minority of people.

Kinda makes one wonder....

Great, you got attention. And nothing will happen because of it. Well done.

I think you should educate yourself on what is the real problem. The numbers and human cost in Chicago alone are staggering: https://heyjackass.com/home/

He's doesn't need education. He graduated college and knows every thing about the world. He probably also doesn't have a job and lives off his parents while fighting his noble social justice battles.
