Black National Anthem!

The biggest culprits of failing to hire and promote minorities are tech services,m. Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Most manufacturing and other sectors have done a great job in employment numbers and management mix.

Sports is an anomaly because playing the game is a totally different skill set than front office positions. Unless a player has an interest or puts in the time to learn, it’s a bit more understandable why management roles have a different mix.

Where I get confused is there’s all this talk of the poor education systems in the inner cities failing. Then there is outrage of who gets hired. Do people want companies to hire from these poorly educated schools? It’s not happening. It’s just a vicious cycle. We expect sports teams to select the most qualified people. In the world of business it is tough to be the most qualified when you come from a poor education system no matter what color you are. This isn’t a matter of race being an issue in hiring. This is the product of the poor education system not producing. Yet somehow it gets twisted to be America has bad hiring practices.

Agree. Responsible communities understand the value and importance of education. If you have a corrupt BOE and lack of community involvement (On all levels) you reap what you sow.

Agreed. We had Keith Hamilton Cobb as our Julius Caeser at PA Shakes a few years ago.

I also wonder if they called for an all-Asian cast or all-Jewish cast for Hamilton, how would that go over. Oy!

It seems African American's are the only cohort that can get away with it.

All Black Universities? Maybe I should start an all-Italian College.
You shouldn’t know from it.

What's your point on this? I am actually afraid of your answer.

NFL is about 70 25 and 5 right now.
There are caucasians in the NFL. Many of them play on offensive or defensive lines, play tight end or linebacker if they are not QB. One of the best skill players in all of the NFL is caucasian and a RB for Carolina. As for APAC presence there is a history of Pacific Islanders in the NFL typically from Samoa. Some Australian nationals and Australia is as much of an immigrant nation as USA if not more, thosed that played Aussie rules football have come over to be Punters and fullbacks in the NFL.
It would be very hard to find Koreans, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese because seldom do you have those that are 6'2" plus and upwards of 230 to 250 lbs.

NBA you clearly haven't watched the first 20 years of the 21st century if you think its an all black only league. There has been beautifully skilled players of hispanic and Spanish heritage in the league. Many from the 2004 Argentina team that won Olympic gold medal played in NBA for many years. There has also been players from Mexico, DR, PR.
As for those with true Asian backgrounds again how many Chinese, Koreans, Japanese are there at 6'5" and above...Now there was a super big from China in early 2000s Yao Ming who ended up with as many foot issues as Bill Walton and it curtailed his career. There have been some others from China this century Yi Jialin was a bit of a flop.

As for caucasians in the NBA, Kevin Love, JJ Reddick, Alex Caruso plus many European nationals and many mixed raced Americans also in league.

I think its extreme comparison to compare overall diversity in a niche sport league where A. The window of play from a player perspective is quite short in either league vs the real world. Average NFL player is maybe 3.5 seasons not sure what NBA is.

Real world business though its leas likely in the modern era than in past decades you can be at a company for close to a lifetime or atleast be in an industry with maybe 3 or 4 moves for 30 to 40 years.

In any sports league if you have the goods and you are even a Martian from Mars you will get play.

As for real world hiring practices in business i dont see it as a true comparison.
Agree. You need certain skills for every business. If people have them, they should be hired. If not, not.
If you insist on quotas, they should be applied to all businesses no matter what they are.

what i personally insist on does not matter. i question how much authentic meritocracy exists on both ends of the pendulum. What I would like to see is a candidate pool be true regardless of gender, religion, race or sex orientation. I believe you will get great hires out of that.
I don't want minorities to fill in spots to make a quota. I don't want to see Caucasians get a spot because well their interviewers and HR types were all Caucasians.
I also don't want to see nepotism muddy a candidate pool. However, I have seen that enough particularly. In the case of my observation of nepotism I have graded a 20% proficiency rate at 3 companies combined. I believe cases of nepotism can be dividing to departments and companies.

Let me complain about a perceived problem based on my narrow experiences, while offering no ideas on how to address their perceived issue. Next...

Hall85 i am sure you would be very happy if you were on recieving end of a job you can never lose, that you weren't neccessarily even a good candidate for and got a groomed role. Too much crooked behavior happens at the highest levels of private sector. When that level gets cleansed maybe things will be different.

So if a SHU alum, who has pull at a company, helps out a basketball player to get a job would you be against that?

Who says that doesn’t happen? So deal with the situations when it does. What’s your plan? I know, you don’t have one...just like repeating your perceived problems with anecdotal stories. Next.

Luckily the public sector is much cleaner. Thank you Chuck. Thank you Nancy. Thank you Mitch. All of you keep the public sector on track and free of crooked behavior. LOL

Very noble.

I am not in favor of putting anyone in a groomed placement that they are not equipped for.

I think its a goodwill gesture for any school alumnus to help out other alumni or recent grads to a degree on reference or networking...why did you use an example of basketball player?

Because we watch all of their games. We become fond of our players and want them to succeed post graduation. If we had a shu baseball or volleyball or soccer forum where we all followed those teams religiously I would have picked those sports. What the hell is going through your head to even ask that question.

Equal time!
I want the Italian Anthem played before games.
That’s Amore!
Free pizzas from Luigi’s in Lincroft as Dean sings on the PA system.
You take a knee, you don’t get a slice. Worse than capital punishment.

Sorry that's not happening. Should you decide to write the Hispanic National Anthem, Asian National Anthem, Middle Eastern National Anthem, or White National Anthem, I think you'll be good to fight or it.

CNN had a documentary last night titled "1968". The year that anti-war protests, civil rights, MLK and RFK assassinations, subsequent riots and then the Presidential election. Interesting comparison to what is happening this year.

Then you wake up and read about the carnage that is happening. So when the clowns keep repeating "It's happening" or "It's scary", they are damn right even with their sarcastic tone. Is this just collateral damage to the cause? Murdering children?
