gov needs to sign into law, some assemblymen abstained because too many holidays on calendar and feel though this should be recognized it needs to replace an existing observed holiday. Columbus day should take the hit.

ugh. god forbid americans take one more day away from work. they should include it as an addition, if not columbus day is the obvious martyr here. this change seems like a good one.

US should move to a four day work week, guaranteed paid time off and holidays.
Most european business has 35 hour work weeks, mandated breaks in their workdays. I have dealt with a lot of european broadcasting entities last two years. Some people had 30 to 40 days of holiday pre christmas and well past the new year.
Domestically, I would be in favor of 4, 10 hour days. Some unionized workforce is like that in certain industry.
Most salaried employees get some form of PTO. If you have to work a holiday you get another day in lieu or get bonus compensation for working that day.
No reason for 10 hour days. The point of my proposal is to reduce people's working hours. This is one thing Europe does right, an emphasis on work life balance and personal pursuits.
