Buffalo Shooting

Ban ARs. Fine by me. Not surprising you don’t see other peoples points.
i definitely understand the mental issue is #1. amd we should be enforcing the laws we have. absolutely. i just dont see the point in defending that AR15 wasnt designed to kill people. it was developed by the military because it worked well killing people and then they said hey lets make more money and sell this retail.

Of course it was initially designed to kill (and wound) enemy soldiers albeit that is a narrow way to categorize the evolution of the army rifles and their use.

If you read up on the M1 and the progression to the M16 and beyond you will learn the bigger picture.

The "lets make more money" sounds like you are a bitter beatnik who has not done well with capitalism.

The M16 was originally developed as a replacement to the M1. Over time there were variations made and it morphed into more of a platform than a discrete rifle. Curiosity, ingenuity, and needs caused it to be adapted to other uses. The current weapon and all is variations, add-ons, options, etc. make it the most versatile weapons' platform. Hence its popularity.

Hunting
Target
Plinking
Competition
Collecting
Varmint control
Herd Protection
Tinkering
Home, Boat, and Business Defense

The overwhelming majority of owners are law abiding and use it for the above purposes. 4 whack jobs per year choose to use the weapon for heinous acts. Some percentage of criminals use it and other deadly weapons for nefarious purposes. No laws will stop them from getting these and other deadly weapons in there hands.

It is more than 4 wack jobs. There are many wack jobs that have these weapons. They haven't acted yet. The law that prevents them from getting this weapon is a complete ban. Are people hunting with an AR? Are real hunters actually using an AR to hunt? The real hunters I know don't and laugh at the suggestion.

Defense? there are plenty of firearms to defend ones business or home. Anything you listed there are alternatives. It is not a necessity with very viable alternatives out there.

Some. Yes.

Do these same people laugh at electric vehicles, metal golf drivers, and streaming TV?

It is good that Biden visited Buffalo after shooting.Curious why he didn’t visit Wisconsin in December when black motorists ran down a group of white people.Oh that is right when black people conduct a massacre on whire people if he visited he would be crucified for ruining the narrative that it is only white nationalism that exists, there is no black nationalism and there is only white privilege no black privilege and we need more white guilt like the guilt that funded BLM.

Not really. The Buffalo shooter had a banned magazine. It did not stop him.

The 1994 ban was deemed marginally effective. It excluded all previously owned weapons. I think the ban was a political win but did not do much to stop shootings. It's like crime in general. We set up cameras downtown and in certain neighborhoods. It moved the crime. It did not slow it. I believe an AR Ban might reduce AR deaths but not deaths overall. I do believe an AR ban would make alot people feel good.

I don't see anyone passing a ban that would confiscate what is out there.

The hint of any ban just spikes the purchases and drives up demand.

He had a banned magazine and it is too easy to modify to make it even more lethal. I think the ban needs to be all weapons every previously purchased weapons. Otherwise I agree it just drives sales.

These are the same types of hunters that go into caged areas to "go hunt."

no its not about capitalism. its that there was no other purpose to sell it retail over making more money from it. it wasnt designed to fill any of those needs you mentioned. its a military weapon transfered to civilians.

personally i think most gun owners dont use their gun for any utility.

What does that mean for “any utility”?

that people arent hunting with every gun they own, or some any gun they own. not shooting vermin, no competition, no herd protection, etc.
I would recommend you speak with someone that owns one. A good friend is a history buff, gun collector, goes to the range and does target shooting and takes tactical classes. (He also is on the board of Gettysburg and collects other weapons of combat including swords, bayonets, etc.). Why should we confiscate his?

No you don’t.

Yes, many ranges offer various self defense classes on handling different guns. Is that to difficult to understand?

yes, yea i do. funny you say that, as a guy who gets hyper specific about his made up interactions.

"made up interactions"?

With posts like that he makes Lloyd Christmas look like Einstein. Lol

This article was syndicated in our local paper this morning

Relative to the article, A and B are possible but not C.

In another thread I posted about Josh Shapiro and him being astute.

At one meeting with him we were seeking state funding for a crime fighting initiative. At the end of it he said suggested that we somehow taken opioids to our work because that had a chance of bi-partisan support. He realized that a frontal assault on crime would not get bi-artisan support and he was proposing a flanking maneuver.

I think it is the same with ARs. If you try a frontal assault (total ban) you will be repelled and ultimately accomplish nothing. If you pick at it from the sides, you can make progress.
