When the New Big East formed, there was a thought that Butler was going to struggle moving up from the Horizon League (that's right the HORIZON LEAGUE!!!). Then their highly acclaimed coach, Brad Stevens, left for the Celtics before they even played a league game. And you look at their roster and it's not exactly a collection of top 100 recruits. Yet, they have passed us by like we were standing still after two years in the NBE. Does Butler have a huge pile of cash that is making the difference? They are the new kids, with a new coach, without any highly touted players....and they are going to the NCAA as a likely five seed.

Time for our leadership to look in the mirror; stop making excuses and either do what's necessary to make a commitment to compete in the BE or take the program to a lesser conference....maybe the Horizon League. Gabe, Pat: Your turn....

This sticks in my craw. It's the objective measure of full-bore failure.

Would Butler's current coach or its recovering one or Wojo have come to the Hall had the job been offered last year or the year before? I say no.
Cooley wasn't remotely interested when it was last open, and he is from the region. Both Butler and Marquette have systems (cultures?) of success in place. We do not, and we're stuck.

I believe Butler went to the BE from the A-10, but I understand your point.
pony, thanks for the correction.

Another contrast. Davidson went into the A10 and won the league outright in their first year. People who questioned the interest in McKillop should now be able to see why there was interest. I am friends with his brother and he told me 6 years ago he was interested in leaving Davidson.

Laranaga had no interest in PC either when he was leaving GMU. And like Solo mentioned Marshall would have no interest in a program like SHU. McCaferry also. It does depend on the guy, but don't forgot with guys like Wojo or Collins it is their first opportunity.

Interests change when a lot of money is thrown in somebody's direction.
