Carino Q&A With Holloway

I always tend to skew optimistic this time of year, projecting everyone's best-case scenario (though I'm aware of it!), but I feel like it's a little more real knowing that Sha is feeling similar. If he says he likes this team, I think he means it. Is he right? We'll see, but I think we're going to be a decent team this year. The league is terrific, so we'll see how that works out.
This is the time of year to be optimistic. Once they start playing games, the reality of wins and losses and the actual ability of players to execute tends to rear its ugly head one way or the other.

It's good to see Shaheen optimistic, that is a departure for him. Hopefully it translates once the season begins and we see our talent against other teams.

I'm actually buying the Richmond hype this season (he has first team all-league potential), but calling this backcourt the best in the league is an absolutely laughable comment. He should know better than to set unrealistic expectations.

Same. Richmond was preseason second team last year and has another year of experience and growth. So one can reasonably dream on that outcome. There are lots of good guards in the league but he can reach that if absolutely everything clicks and frankly he will have more of a chance to showcase stuff and put up numbers compared to some other guys because of the lack of depth.

When Khadary is focused, he is as good as any guard in the country. Problem is that he is not always focused. Hopefully he is focused this year.
Reminds me of Jrue Holliday (Milwaukee Bucks) type of PG. NBA talent in him, needs to stay healthy and listen to Sha.

If Max Strus, a former D2 or D3 player who starred at DePaul can make it in the NBA, Richmond can. Has the size, can shoot, play defense and thread the needle.

Shooting is Kadarys biggest fault. What are you talking about? I don’t think he could ever make an NBA length 3. Max Strus is a Terrible comparison. He has a niche in today’s soft NBA as a sharp shooter

Well, he did elaborate. From the shoulders down, no problem. From the shoulders up, still working on it. But as he noted, Wusu, Dawes and Kadary were all double digit or right there scorers in the BE.
That comment stood out to me. That's *not* something I would expect to hear about a backcourt that consists of two seniors and a graduate player. With that level of experience IQ should be your strength, not your weakness.

That's something i would expect to hear about Coleman - not 22-year-olds.

You hear the same thing about pros.

Richmond at his best is awesome on both sides of the court. He can pass drive, pull up and hit threes. And he is a terrific rebounder. He had many moments last year that were scintillating. But not enough. I am all in on him.

When Richmond got hurt last year, our defense suffered significantly. He can be a real force defensively.

He's also a good distributor. If Sha can get him to improve his shot and finish around the rim, he' could be an all BE player. It will help his assists if more guys can finish their shots too vs. last year. Here's hoping!

I was not suggesting he was anything comparable to Strus, just pointing out that a D2 player who transferred to DePaul was able to find a niche in the NBA mainly because of 3 ball. And our own coach has said Richmond has NBA talent.

Richmond is a good defensive player, wound up in a three-way tie for first in steals in BE, excellent passer and actually a good shooter. BTW, he led the team in 3-point shooting at 44 percent last season and led the team in rebounding in BE play.

This from MBB site:

Had his best season as a collegian statistically, setting career highs in scoring (10.1 points per game), rebounding (5.2 rpg), minutes (27.6 mpg), three-point percentage (44 percent), free throw attempts (101) and free throws made (70).

I don't think he was talking about basketball IQ. I think Sha was speaking about them understanding what he wants from them and how he wants them to run his plays, direct the offense, talk to teammates etc..

I really don't think he questions their basketball IQ at all.
Uhh—did you watch Dawes play last year? Exhibited one of the all-time low BB IQs.
