It was a fitting end. The Pirates have been cooked for weeks, and all their shortcomings were exposed on the biggest stage. No interior defense. No ability to run an offense and attack a zone. No personality edge whatsoever. This was a collective failure, the worst implosion I have witnessed in 11 years on the beat, maybe in all my years following Jersey college basketball. It was exhausting to watch-for fans, media and, I sense, even for those in the program. Some deserving mid-major will gladly take their NIT bid.

Kevin Willard's primary shortcoming was on display in this game............

One thing I admire about Carino is that he shows you something by placing two things side-by-side, for example, a quote from one coach and a quote from another coach, both in extreme losing situations. The world of difference between the two is amazing, even if neither are the answer.

I always like these five thoughts and five quotes articles. He selects the telling detail.

Very painful for us - the entire program is in a complete shambles.

I've been hard on Carino but he hit the nail on the head on how we all feel with the program right now. Have to give him his kudos for hitting a home run here with this article.

For once can Willard not immediately resort to excuses? He obviously has prepped with his excuse list. Good coaches have depth on their rosters and overcome hurdles. Enough with the F-G excuses already. How about you "coach 'em up" for once.

And sadly BluePirate no amount of criticism from the supporters of SH nor from the print or broadcast media will change the fact that he will be our coach next year. While the administration at SH has demonstrated its ineptitude in the way it has handled Willard's contract it's continued silence may ultimately prove to be its bigger mistake .

Will never happen because he allows the space for excuses. No demand and drive to overcome. Just wallow in it like a lost puppy.

It kills Jerry to write what he writes. He's an SHU alum and loves the school. But he's also a professional writer with a job to do no matter how unpleasant.

Jerry has to walk a fine line as do all beat reporters. If they don't their job becomes more difficult.

Writer's like he and JP Pelzman of the Record do a great job under very difficult circumstances.

They deserve more praise than many here might realize.

I said I wasn't going to post about our pathetic men's basketball program anymore. And I should probably stick to that for my own mental well-being. But in the interest of fairness, since I ripped Carino pretty good after he published that Seton Hall PR piece the other day, I suppose I should point out that even he doesn't buy what his own article tried to sell. Here's an exchange between me and him on Twitter last night:

Him: Boos are raining from the Pirate diehards here. Marquette's putting on a
highlight show. Give the Golden Eagles credit - they want this bad.

Me: Tell me again why Seton Hall supports Kevin Willard. I am DYING to hear it.

Him: I laid all that out yesterday. Don't shoot the messenger, man.

Me: At least acknowledge that the message is total b.s. maybe?

Doesn't take much reading between the lines to figure out that he thinks Willard should be fired. Would be nice if he would actually SAY that but oh well...

And now I'm going to go away. And stay away. I can't take it anymore.

Give Jerry this, he tries to be professional and not be a fan. I know the puff piece bothers me, but I he has a job to do.

That is why I think Lucci killed the Ledger sports section with his utter RU bias. It always came across rosey about RU but tough on everything SHU. That's why I still read Carino and the SNL. Carino gives a more objective view IMO.
